This is harsh but bottom line (and my advice to anyone who asks) is if you are not going to put in the time, effort, money etc. to constructing  a predator proof coop especially the part in which they roost at night  then you do not need poultry.   It simple is not fair to the birds, they are domesticated and need to be protected.


Your friend needs to find a responsible animal steward asap.
