Rocky Mountain Chickenstock raffle winners announced

Here are the winners from the Raffle...  I used a random number generator online to pick the winning tickets.. We had a great turnout (around 300) gave away 200 chicks to 4H kids and everyone had a good time..  Matthew B. a local 9 year old (almost 10) 4Her won the Greenfire eggs.   I'll post pictures later but right now I need to go feed everything before dark...  I'll be contacting winners individually with instructions on claiming prizes so please be patient as there are a lot of you!!  Thanks everyone for the support!!

We will be holding the first annual Rocky Mountain Chickenstock in Idaho Falls on Saturday May 5th, 2012.  Event will be held at the Bonneville County Fairgrounds from 11 am to 4 pm.  A raffle for some really awesome prizes will be held with the drawing at 3 pm. Admittance is free to the event. Lance Ellis, MTC is an instructor for the University of Idaho Extension Service and has taught poultry classes all over Idaho, Utah & Wyoming.  He has graciously agreed to come and teach a couple of seminars at our event.  He will be teaching Children’s Poultry – this class was designed for little kids to learn about poultry, more about eggs, where birds are originated from and what they eat. Simple and fun class with a hands on demonstration of a laying hen, eggs, and feed. Then he will teach, Showing poultry at the fair – a whole class for 4-H youth to prepare themselves to show birds at the fair. Includes washing and prepping birds for the fair, answering poultry questions, and how to handle your birds.

Rules: You do not have to be present to participate in the raffle... or to win..   If you win and are not present, I will just mail your gift certificate or prize to you..  Gift certificates for hatching eggs will be sent to the winners and the winners contact information will be sent to the donor of their eggs.  Shipping arrangements etc will be made between the individual winners and donors.  Please note that as these are shipped eggs that there is no guarantee by either RMC or the donor on hatch rate, USPS handling etc.  We can only guarantee that you will get the eggs committed to and good hatching vibes from all of us..

Estes Hatchery has donated 100 chicks & Pine Pride Hatchery has donated 75 chicks to the Rocky Mountain Chickenstock!!  I also have 4 dozen eggs from Scientific Learning Resources in the incubator and we will be giving all the chicks away  to 4-H kids to raise for the fair.

Candlewood Suites has graciously donated several suites to the event.  We will be auctioning off the suites on BYC for someone to use when they come or anytime during the next 12 months.  They are also offering a discount rate for anyone who is coming, call 208-525-9800 to book and you just need to ask for the Chickenstock rate of $79.99..  You can book from the website and then call the hotel directly and they will change the rate for you.  http://www.candlewoodsuites.com/idahofallsid  This is the closest hotel to the event, just a few blocks away and is right on the beautiful Snake River.  Come on over and make a weekend of it!!

I've been talking to the local extension office and think it would be great if we could involve the 4-H kids in our Chickenstock..  It would give them all a chance to get some chicks of breeds they might not be able to get otherwise..  and then show them in our County fair and the Eastern Idaho State fair..  (or their local fair if not from East Idaho)

The only catch is that to be eligible for exhibition, they have to have them for 90 days before the fair.  That means we would need to move our date up to the 5th of May or earlier...   I've been working on a location and we should be able to use the Bonneville County Fairgrounds animal barn ... all indoors which would be nice... 

Unless there is a majority vote against, I propose that we move the Rocky Mountain Chickenstock to May 5th.  All in favor say Aye.....

I was able to confirm this afternoon that we have the Bonneville County Fairgrounds West Barn reserved for Saturday May 5th from 11 am to 4 pm.  Should have plenty of room for everyone who wants to come..  Now I just need to get a couple of sponsors to help pay for some expenses like liability insurance... Any suggestions?  Should we try and get items donated for a raffle at the event?  Let me know what you think!!
