Hahah, that's ok, it's not the first old thread I started getting into before realizing its age, and I'm sure it won't be the last. LOL

I hear ya! I have had two bad experiences recently.

The first one happened about a month ago. I ordered a puzzle from Amazon. It was supposed to come in 3-4 weeks. It never arrived. I checked amazon.com to check the status of the order, and it supposedly had shipped. Checked back two days later when I still hadn't received it, and my order was GONE. No records of it whatsoever. The fifty dollars they charged to my account however, remained gone. And there isn't a bleeping thing I can do about it since there is no record on amazon of my order rant.gif

I also ordered a VERY large shipment from Michigan Bulb. It was supposed to arrive on Wednesday of this week. I just checked it's location on the UPS tracking page... Delivery date has been updated to 3/27. Apparently it made it all the way from Michigan to Southern CA, but it will now take another 5 days to get from San Pablo to Sacramento!? Ugh.

No chickens right now, but between Jamison and Samson I have my hands full anyways!

Living our life in Sacramento and planning for our future. It's hard to believe it can get better than this

Every time I see threads like this, I count my blessings for having such a kind and conscientious mail lady. We're on a rural route and she always calls when we have packages, whether the box says to or not. My parents and aunt & uncle are on the same route, so if she sees one of us isn't home, she checks with another family member to see if a package can be left there for safekeeping. She does a great job. Now, what happens in big postal sorting facilities I cannot vouch for, but I know once our mail lady has it, it's in good hands.

We just had to make a complaint about our postman the other day.  Moved to a new house in October and the postman in this neighborhood apparently doesn't know how to close the mailbox. We've had the mailbox left open during rainstorms, mail getting wet and blowing down the street. Made a complaint. Next day the box was closed, but the day after - left open again.  Gave it a couple more days (in case the boss hadn't spoken to his employee yet) and still open mailbox.  Made a second complaint. Again the mailbox was closed the very next day - then after that it remained open.  A couple days after that second complaint was on a Saturday. My husband watched as the mailman drove to our box, opened it, put in mail and drove off - the mailman noticed my husband standing on the porch - BACKED UP and closed the box. He knew what he was doing by leaving it open. Needless to say - the postoffice got another very angry call from us.  So far the box has been closed, but also noticed that we have a new postman now too.

We've had so many issues with mail lately that I rarely use USPS anymore. I can mail two letters to the same place and one will never arrive. I want to know what happens to all this mail that has gone missing over the past year!

Sorry - just had to vent right along with everyone else!

Seems like I read somewhere that for the first 100 years of it's existence The U.S. Post Office (Postmaster General used to be a cabinet post) actually put money into the treasury. I can remember the penny postcard and a first class letter costing 2¢.

Your postman used to "box" his own mail, put it in that huge leather bag, get on the bus and ride out to his route, which he than walked. He knew your name and you knew his, and on hot days we'd give him ice water. A letter from out-of-town, and most were, (we used to just go over to someone's house and talk to them if they were local) took as much as 5 days to arrive and Air Mail usually took two. Parcel Post might take a week or more, and almost always arrived in good condition.

Than there were the dedicated railroad cars for mail delivery. I remember going down to the station and watching the clerks work sort the mail. I got to go into one of those old cars in the railroad museum in Galveston, Texas last summer.

I don't know what any of this has to do with the topic, but I had a good time reminiscing. Thanks for reading.

My daughter is a postal carrier and anytime I ask why priority mail is taking to long or my box of eggs getting beat up her reply to me is... If its so important pay for express. Express mail is their number one top priority and its insured.  It's sometimes even cheaper to send.

An that's why the US mail is in trouble.

The (we are not doing a good job so pay us more) mindset.
