What is your favorite smoker? - Page 2

Not only can you cook incredible chicken but you can also cook high end restaurant quality ribs, briskit and Boston Butts on this cooker. You can also take it to competitionn cooking events and compete with the best. I have a top of the line Traeger, a Meadow Creek smoker, a number of gas grills and many home designed cookers. My choice for all round grilling and smoking is the Webber Smokey Mountain Cooker (it is not sold in stores) sold only via the internet. If you buy one send me an email and I will give you my recipe for Cranberry Glazed Chicken. Incredible!

Flowerchild said she would not go back to a smoker that used wood???? Traeger is a wood pellet burning smoker. Traegers are good smokers if you don't care about smoke flavor. It is mainly used as a chicken cooker in competition circles if used at all. The biggest complaint with serious cooks is that it does not give food the smoke ring that you are looking for in quality BBQ. It also requires electricity plus a bag of wood pelllets where the Weber Smoky mountain does not require electricity. The other problem is that Traeger has moved all of their production to China and unless you have one of the early models that was made in the US you may not have the quality that they started with. Another main issue with Traeger is that unless you have the digital temperature controller you cannot cook at the exact temperatures that you would like to. If you have a trager with a digital temp controller it does a better job of controlling the cooking temperature. Also make sure you do not leave a traeger in the weather where the remaining wood pellets in the auger tube that feeds into the fire box might become damp from inclement weather. If that gets wet the wood pellets will swell and lock the feed tube down. If you manage all of these variables it will do a fair job. JMHO
