Guitartists, we'll do this in stages.   We'll start out with a static page and then if we get a lot of submissions and it proves helpful we can expand it into a cool database application that allows for searching and filtering!

We are about ready to get rolling on this.    Cancun here we come!!! lol

Ok, I would suggest that people send in whatever pictures they have, that they can correctly ID by breed, age, color and sex if possible.   I know that some of the pictures I've taken won't be as good as someone elses picture of the same breed/age so we can then pick the better of the pictures submitted.  We can use one until a better one comes along in the future also.

Also - if someone can absolutely ID a chick as a pullet or Roo at a young age they should do so.   If not, once that particular bird has laid that egg or crowed then the person who submitted the picture could let us know and we can go back and edit the picture to say which it is.

I think people should take both a good side shot (which side to be determined) and a good close-up head shot of combs/wattles for sexing.  It will be important to get legs in the shot since the color, feathers, etc. is important to help ID a chick.

Nifty - I like your idea of having, say, two people on each list.... however long that list is can be determined.

Well, why don't we start with 2 people, guitartists and myself, and we can always split the work up between more people as we get volunteers and more work to do?

Should we split alphabetically? And we should probably start a thread of pictures needed or something, once we figure out how we want to do things. ???

But I'm the newbie here smile

Can I blame it on having a toddler and 10 month old running around, so by the time I get to the end of a list of posts I've forgotten the first one? smile

I love the pictures that were posted with the black background and white font. It looks great!

I think we have 4 people willing to help! If someone can break up the breeds into 4 chunks we can start figuring out which breeds we have (or have people working on) and which ones we need and can ask people who aren't watching this thread to try to take pictures and let us whoever is responsible for that breed know that they're working on pictures for that breed.

We'll also need to figure out exactly how we want them formated, but I think the hard part is going to be getting pictures from people and getting them organized.

Would an excel file be helpful for keeping things organized? What we have, what we've been promised, and what we need? If so, I'm happy to put it together. I love excel for database management.

Most important.... don't start getting pictures taken / submitted until you have some good examples to use as the baseline.

Also, organizing may be a good idea and you could use Google Docs worksheet program so multiple people could access and update at the same time.

Would it be OK for us to solicite certain members of the BYC for specific breeds???? Can we PM them once and ask if they would like to participate? This would help us to control quality.
