My hen looks like she's falling asleep standing up...

I think my 6 month old black laying hen is sick. About an hour ago I noticed she wasn't really scratching around like the other hens and when I walked up to her she didn't really move. I've separated her from the rest of the flock and she's drinking a lot of water, not really eating. She's just standing, letting her head slowly fall and her eyes are closed. As if she's falling asleep standing up. Maybe has a fever since she's drinking so much water.

Any ideas? Anything more I can do? I don't have a vet nearby. Do you think she'll make it?

She's definitely been dewormed. They get a de-parasite powder in their food each month. I don't believe she's malnourished - I wouldn't call her breast bone prominent or sharp. This behavior came on kind of suddenly. I only have five hens and everybody was acting normal yesterday. Even this morning they all strutted out of the coop like normal.

She might be egg bound. Mine always just stand or sit around when they have a stuck egg. Maybe you can feel her lower abdomen. A warm water soak has always helped mine in this condition.

It's pretty soft under there...at least, I can't feel anything hard, like an egg. Just the fact that I can feel around without even holding her tells me it's probably illness or some other kind of injury. My neighbor thinks she may have fallen from her perch last night and could have an internal injury. Her wings are sort of dropped and I can see her breathing...like she's heaving big sighs or something.

It's heartbreaking to watch her! I am sort of giving up hope already.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry!! So sudden.

I'd really like to figure out what this is. I sometimes see it in my new hatched quail at a couple days old. Intact I have one doing it right now. :(. The eyes close the head falls next thing you know they are all wobly and keep falling down then they are flat with big Xs on there eyes. Always makes me sad.
