Wellllllllllll, how bout now? Any keets hatch for ya yet?  I hope so! fl.gif   Are you hatching in the 1588? If so, where's the hatch pics since you've got that big ol' window to snap pics thru!?!?

Hmmm, I don't know if the thicker shells make it harder to hear peeping from keets or not... I've only hatched 3768764864 keets, and 3 poults (wild turkeys, so the shells were thick on those as well) idunno.gif

Ahahah, no intervention help from you, cuz you're one of them, an enabler! lau.gif

Lookie what I have going on right now, somebody's waitin' on a buddy (day 24, early brats!)

1stkeet_Hatch4.jpg

I think I'm gonna have to take out all of my Pieds in this flock and relocate them... I already hatch enough Pieds in my other flock!

Pieds are adorable as chicks, and really lovely as adults, too, but they can kind of take over.  Course, don't tell this guy cause he'll turn his charm up that much higher and you won't be able to resist!

No peeping, and I'm beginning to think I never heard it.  Hope I didn't, actually.  Since the silkie chicks are close to the hatching bator, I was probably just hearing them.  today is day 28, so maybe maybe maybe we'll see some action today.  If not, I might have to be super sad.  I won't give up just yet, though, cause so far both our silkie batches ran a day late (hatched over day 22/23 instead of 21) I think cause we had the Brinsea set at 99.5 and then after double checking it realized that was closer to 99 flat.  Anyway, keep crossing your fingers!  I'll post as soon as we see action!

Hmmm, day 28 huh... hmm.png   fl.gif

Did ya candle when ya moved em over by chance? If so, how'd they look (besides dark)? That'll be a bummer if none hatch for you, but at least you have all that Silkie Cuteness for a fix in the meantime! Do you have more Guinea eggs set already, or more waiting to be set?

That 2nd keet in the pic I posted tuckered out, hasn't hatched yet. He's just sitting there not quite zipped all the way. I see him breathin' tho, lol. All he needs to do is pull his head out of his... duc.gif... I mean all he has to do if SIT UP and the top will pop off, lol. Lazy keet, c'mon! I think it's another Pied Brown (gee, go figure) from what little bits of wet down I see sticking out of the "zipper marks" here and there, lol. (I have no idea what that's called, zip-line, pip-line?).

I'm heading out to collect eggs... I was a slacker and did not collect eggs yesterday (cuz I just set a batch of 75 woot.gif ), and I knew yesterdays and today's would be goin' into the fridge, cuz dangit I need eggs...  I want an omelet and I have a dark fudge Brownie mix to bake and I am out of eggs. (Where's the lil piggy smiley when ya need it!).

It snowed up at my house yesterday..... so I suspect this is why I am not getting any eggs.  Its been windy and wet winter up at the house....

Yeah...it ain't lookin' so good.  We candled when we put them in, but were going quickly so just saw that it was dark and mostly filled the space with good air sacks.  Didn't watch for movement.  If I don't see anything by tomorrow morning, I'll pull them out and candle again.  Suspect these petered out somewhere. hit.gif Boo.  Well, we have another seven in the bator, but they haven't been canlded yet at all.  After that we will have to wait til the girls start laying again.  Today was gorgeous--probably close to 70--so maybe they'll start soon.

I hope your little guy gets himself unzipped.  That is the hardest part for me to watch--the slow process from pipped to out.  I guess that's also the fun part, but I hate to lose a chick in that stage.  Just feels wrong, somehow!

Enjoy your eggs and dark fudge brownies.  I guess if you have to perform the heinous crime of eating guinea eggs you know to be fertile, at least you're using them in brownies! tongue2.gif

Good luck with your wait, Perchie Girl!  I'm right there with you!

What age are they when they start to lay eggs? My chickens have started but I'm still waiting on my 3 Turkeys (1m 2f) and my Guineas to start laying (5m 13F) A fellow in my area told my yesterday that his started to lay and he has never seen them start this early. Most people say March and April in Pennsylvania.

Welcome from San Diego...... welcome-byc.gif

I am still waiting.... here in California they have begun to lay in some areas.  I just had a major snow storm go through dumped a foot of snow..... And I am in San Diego county in the high desert.    I really think it depends on what the weather is like where you live.

Maybe Peeps will have more info....

16 weeks old is the average age that Guinea Hens are sexually mature and can start laying, but the weather/temps and daylight hours are what triggers them. My first timers typically start laying earlier (January/February) than my older Hens (March/April).

So.... By the time it gets there the Jar will be full of water..... Hee hee Water for eggs....   Yep Id do that.

Seriously it only lasts at the higher levels.  My place is at 3000 feet.  The snow level went down to 2500 so that means the snow will only last a few hours.
