live traps are a must if you keep chickens. we keep the innards from our meaties for bait! catch em and dispose of them or they WILL come back!!!

I have been using or trying to use the Golden Marlin fly bait to dispatch a few raccoons that have tried to dig their way into my chicken coop with little success. I have been placing a good sized handful of bait on a lid and then pouring a little cola on that for attractant, then placing that in a live trap to keep it way from our cat and dog just in case they wander off into the woods while we are not looking. Just a bit of a safe guard. So far the raccoons have flipped over one trap but have eaten the bait and the other trap I caught a raccoon and it was still alive when I got to the trap. It must have been a super coon because it took five .22 subsonic bullets to the head area to kill it. The bait part is what is bothering me though. I hate for them to tip it and get it on the ground for other animals to possibly eat and it is not killing them like I have heard it will. Does anyone know if the ingredients have changed?

Thanks,

Justin

Off label poisoning is illegal, there is no publicly available raccoon poison... And it's the worst approach to solving the problem because as you have implied there is no way to control what or who gets into that poison, could be the raccoon could be the neighbors pet or even child, or who knows what, even your own chickens might get into it...
