SCG... Ducks just grow that fast. Cute little fuzz balls one day...big stinky ducks the next.

Speaking of candling, I candled my Tomaru eggs today to check the fertility (I had set them last week Tuesday), and 3 out of 6 eggs are veining! :celebrate

They are eating Blue Seal foods, not Duck Micracle Gro! They recommend game bird starter (22% protein) for the first 3 weeks (that's what I feed chicks). I fed it for about a week before being scared about the growth rate and possibility of angel wing. Then I went down to turkey grower pellets which is 18% protein and what my adult chickens eat. At 2 or 3 weeks I started feeding them the 16% protein food. They always had access a few times a day to peas, lettuce, kale, grapes, mealworms etc. Boyfriend fed them corn flakes a few times, too. :) The growth rate really didn't slow down much on the food change. They also got some b complex vitamins in their water because fatty Kowalski had some leg issues early on. He's fine now.

They are pekin, swedish and rouen cross.

And to clarify, they're not 30 lbs EACH... it was total, so they're about 6 lbs each. Or, well, they were last week at least.

Maybe I'll weigh them again today on their way outside.

So they're not supposed to be this "advanced" at 5 weeks?

YET! :p The way they are growing they are working on it! :lol: Edit to add: The few ducks I've raised all grew like weeds too but they were smaller breeds so didn't get that big that fast.

These aren't the best pics, we were getting in a hurry as you can see the sun started going down on us fast, so I couldn't get pic of the inside yet, we still have some touching up to do but we worked on this all day Saturday and Sunday and my silkies loved it, they have so much more room now! It's 6x6 not including the nesting boxes that come out the back. I'm pretty excited about it!!!

This one is from the back, my bro in law put the nesting boxes low so I can reach in to get my eggs, I'm pretty short and couldn't reach in the other one, lol

 
Oh boy! Just candled... was too lazy yesterday, Well ok, I forgot it was day 5. Nobody is doing a countdown! Saw veins and thicker yolks... maybe one is doing nothing but I'll keep it in their till day 10.
