Wow.Thanks for the pictures guys. I feed my chickens laying crumbles and they make a mess with it. I will so have to make a trough style feeder...
Hi!!
A while back, I've made a feeder out of a plastic vase and the base from another (bigger) one... The result was something like the one in this pic...
Besides having it hung about 20 cm (8 inches) high, my chickens flinged the feed all over the place...
The best solution to this problem, is to not let them swing they're heads/beaks from side to side in the feed... Whence the small tabs (red arrow) in the pic...
In my case, I just added some pieces of wire across the feed gap... Result: Zero waste feed on the floor!!
So, no matter what kind of feeder you have, just find a way to avoid the chickens from swinging their heads side to side... Problem solved.
