Black spots on comb...... Pox or Frostbite?

It looks like my girl that the others were beating on. They grab her comb and pull her by it. Just little scratches that scab. Had another that looked like that when she got all skittish and tried to fly through the fence when I was checking out her yelling.

They are still acting good this morning but two of them have combs that are a bit droopy. Is this typical.........should I be more concerned? Sorry for so many questions.....but they are my babies and I don't want to miss anything.

We have just noticed the same problem with one of our girls. It is our first year keeping hens and we thought we had taken all the precautions against the cold to keep them fit and healthy. The temperature has been cold here lately (-16C) and we didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. However today we saw nasty balck spots on the comb and face of one of the girls. We did think it was frostbite but after reading this thread we are not so sure.

Can anyone tell us -frostbite or pox?

We understand there isn't treatment for pox (except using iodine), but are the eggs still OK to eat and is there any longer term damage?

Thanks

I'm not an expert on it, but I don't think that's pox or frostbite. Looks more like pecking or dirt to me.

Imp- Good luck

Hi, your photos above look similar to mine but much more mild. I am having no luck in getting a diagnosis from any vets. Everyone seems a bit baffled. Chooks have no other symptoms other than this crusty stuff on face which we can pick off fairly easily without hurting them at all. I'm following this thread with interest to see if I find answers here. We have 5 chooks that we love a lot and they all infected. Just hoping for the best....

I just saw this thread. And the picture you posted looks like what 2 of my Buffs have now.
Trying to figure it out and saw your picture. What did you do for this? And did you figure out what it was?
