Hen acting like choking please HELP! - Page 2

feel her crop. Is it gooshy? It should be relatively firm and kinda hard like. If it is gooshy, type her forward and upside down causing her to throw up and get that yuck outta there. Then look up sour crop and go from there.

I use pine bedding, the other hens seem to be fine except they have been sneezing often, but Lilly the sick one doesn't. I'm not sure on the respiratory infection, she just seems to be choking, not wheezing or any of the other symptoms. It's slightly gooshy, I have looked up sour crop and I'm not sure, I took their food last night and felt her crop this morning, and it was slightly full, but was pretty much empty.

Due to a little thing called chicken math, we now have 9 hens, about a year ago, we only started out with two! Our ladies nicknamed "the big hens" are  Lacey (Speckled Sussex), Lilly (BLR Wyandotte), Maizie (ISA Brown), Molly (Very Grumpy Barnevelder), Juliet (Silver Penciled Wyandotte), Delilah (Very Grumpy Welsummer), and the latest addition Lucy (Very Bossy Barred Rock). She seems to be doing much better, I hardly see her choke now. She is eating just as much as the others now. I have been giving her 1 fish oil capsul a day, and she seems great!

Sometimes they get food or grass or something stuck in their throat and it takes times to work it down.  olive oil and throat massages help.  Chicks can choke on the starter crumbles if they gorge themselves.  Make sure they have food and water available 24/7.  Good luck.

Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well-preserved body. but rather, to skid in sideways, totally worn out and exhausted while shouting loudly "WOW! What a ride!"

I had a hen die once from a crop issue -- What seems like something insignificant to us may be a big deal with birds.  I used to let them at grass clippings, but imo the clippings they ingest are at times too long -- When they bite some turf/grass, they naturally take the size appropriate for them, so I never give them clippings anymore.

not inferring this is the issue, just a thought.
