With several comments about finding it hard to obtain good quality Brabanters, has anyone purchased from Sandhill? Where have you found good quality stock? If our town changes it's regs, this is...

I like everything about it except how it looks right now. I know it lays decently. It is a great part of my great waterfowl flock.

First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.
-
Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.
-
They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

I am new and don't really know where to put this. I have a question for all the american game owners. Why do you tether your Roosters? I have a 13 month old that free ranges with his ladies and I have no problems. He has challenged me but I held my ground and now he does as he is told, well as much as a chicken is going to. I have read almost all of the posts on this sight regarding these birds and am very confused. In one post someone will say how wonderful and friendly they are and on the next post another is saying they are aggressive and need to be watched. So which is it? I am new to these birds, I bought a farm and these birds were left behind because they could not be caught. I have researched all I could and asked alot of questions. I only recently found out that they were American Game (3 months ago). So can someone help me to understand why alot of the pics are of the roos tethered to barrels instead of free range?

Hens can run free but Stags and Cocks cannot....If they are true game they will fight to the death or very near it.

Well there are good and bad but they where raised to be very friendly but now that is gone and people are letting them be whatever they want manfighters or not. They should be raised as friendly as possible and aggresive ones should be culled.

I am in the process of trying to find a home for my teenage roo. I love hima and he is very trusting but since I wont tether if I don't have too then the younger needs to go. But it is proving very difficult to rehome him. Thank you for your replies. Here is a pic of my 13 month old Strutter. He is a yellow leg. I am not going to dub him, I think he looks wonderful this way. I believe they call his breed "Sweater".
