How close or far away is your chicken coop to your house?

I know that area well and love the landscape. Ive spent quite a bit of time kayaking and mountain biking in those mountains. Also a good bit of my family hails from the Toccoa Ga area. Ive had a long running dream of buying a nice chunk of land in the mountainous Tri State region to just disappear with the family (well kinda disappear;))

I'm about 12 miles from the TN line, just west of where TN/NC/GA join, in Fannin County. Actually, my house is 8/10 of a mile from the NC line.

I will also say that positioning of your coop is very important. Its mighty hot here so I take advantage of the prevailing wind to help cool the birds. This picture was taken in the summer & you can see that the wind is blowing straight into the pen. I also have the coops positioned to block the col

Hi, My husband and I are going round and round about where to put the chicken coop and run. I want it close to the house (35 feet away) and he wants to put it about 150 feet away. His concern is noisy, odor and flies in the summer. How is this working for you, I see your coop is very close to the house. I will have 6 chickens, a Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Plymouth Rock, Easter egger, 2 orpingtons. Any advice? Thanks

I dont have chickens ~ we're expecting! I want the coop close to my house but my husband is worried about odor, noise and flies. I will be getting 6 chicks. Do I need to be concerned?
