That's ok take your time.   OMG.  The Apple store at the Carousel Mall was packed.  There was no way I was going in there even if I did have money.        

I posted in this thread awhile ago and never came back I guess. Here's a few pictures of the tomatoes, peppers and marigolds I grew from seeds. It was the first time I'd ever tried and I think they turned out pretty well. The peppers are Red Mercury and California Wonder I think...lost all my yellow to slugs, which are also the culprits for the holey leaves. The tomatoes are Purple Cherokee. The marigolds have done amazing as well.

 

 

 

These are gazanias...African daisies and I love them...I bought these, I just really like them. I wish the colors had come out better on both the marigold and gazanias...both are extremely bright colored.

I hope my peppers turn out as nice. You might try some DE  on and around your plants.  I do this on a dry night and it seems to help. Although I can't say the chickens haven't done their part either.  I do like your marigolds to but haven't planted them since the slugs liked them too.

I used a powder on the plants...of course now I can't remember if it was DE or something similar..no problems with bugs anymore. The slugs got them when I was finishing up hardening them off and leaving the plants out over night. My yellow pepper plants were much smaller than the green and red and the slugs ate those literally to the dirt.

 

I had no problems with anything bothering the marigolds, I always thought insects and some animals hated marigolds.

 

All of my plants are a little crooked, they grew too quick and I couldn't get them outside early enough because of the cold. I'm hoping to get a greenhouse for next spring.

I've been reading conflicting info about these Cherokee Purple tomatoes..does anyone have much experience with them?

I have a Cherokee plant and it seems to be doing fine.  It's the first time for me.  I only have the one.

I have planted them in the past;I didn't get an abundance of fruit but what I did get was great. I have been getting some nice yellow tomatoes from the one yellow Boy plant and my cherry tomatoes are starting to go crazy.

Next year, I'm going to have to think ahead of time and order seeds online. The Cherokee Purple were the only non-cherry tomato seeds available in the store in town. Most people around here don't grow tomatoes and peppers from seeds, they buy the plants, so choices are limited.

 

Starting seeds was also a random urge I had...I quickly ended up with WAY too many plants.
 

I'm going to do it differently next year, I'm sure the same amount of plants, but a bigger variety. I live in town and my "garden" are those boxes and a raised bed...the raised bed isn't going to produce anything because it was just made a week ago, but next year I have plans for it. My parents took a lot of my plants for their garden and it's apparently doing awesome.

Since I do raised beds and water nearly everyday late plants are doing good and seem to be catching up.  Of course it's been very hot here for NY. 

 

I did grow a yellow tomato last year but though they were big and plentiful the inside was tough and pithy.  They also tasted like cardboard.  This year my yellow is Carolina Gold.

 

My Cherokee and Black Cherry and most others were purchased plants since I got a late start and the little greenhouse set up I bought got so hot most everything didn't grow. Even new seed didn't grow. 

 

I have some tomato, Okra and squash that I started.

 

I hated to do it but I had to use Seven dust on the squash or the plants would have all died.  As it is I'll be lucky to get a few squash.  Green Hubbard, Et' (french something or other) and Buttercup.  Cukes I had to replace with purchased as mine did not survive the transplant. I'll post pics soon. 

 

Pulled up all the garlic but some I think rotted or are spoiled. I'm not sure which variety since I purchase them at the farmers market from different vendors and didn't know what each was. 

OK I gave up and put the photos on my lap top . The ipad will have to wait. Pulled all the garlic and shallots even though the shallots probably could have stayed in the ground a little longer. My youngest 11 have found a small tear in the plastic from where the landscaper cut it with the weed wacker.They decided they wanted it for their new dusting area.

Yesterday I pulled and braided about 60 onions for drying. They were smallish because it's been so dry here in Iowa. Garlic is next. They're still small but might have a little growth left in them. The melon patch looks good (I've been watering them). Tomatoes suffered this year though and my lettuce bolted

Thinking about starting a fall garden. Never tried that before... Any suggestions? Zone 5b
