<blink>  I was offering a suggestion since I had a roof rat in my garage for some time and have dealt with wood rats living in engine compartments in cars.  The little snots can get into darn near anything and need very little space.  I could easily see one going after a quail. idunno

Since I'm new to quail, I wouldn't have thought much about cannibalism.  hu  Maybe you should rethink your statement about being in "Rainbows and Unicorns Land."  I was just trying to help. smack

@emvickrey

My recent experience is with bob whites. I thought they where attacked till I saw one of the hens pecking at the foot of the roo. She had already eaten around the other hens ankles and she couldn't stand.  I was told it was because of a lack of protein, too small living quarters and I needed to clip the beak of the culprit

CLOSE BUT WITH BOBS THATS NOT CANABALISM, ITS GRUMPY HEN SYNDROME!... ITS A DOMINANCE ISSUE... CANABALISM IN BOBS IS ALMOST IDENTICLE TO WHAT YOU DESCRIBE WITH YOUR CHICKENS... HOLES EATEN OUT OF THE BACK END AND UNDER WINGS thumbsup  IF NOTHING ELSE, BITS MAY BE OF GOOD USE FOR YOU??

AND YES JOE, IT NEVER HURTS TO COVER ALL THE BASES AND SET RAT TRAPS OR BAITS... HECK THATS EVEN A GOOD IDEA FOR FOLKS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS

Yes, could be cannibalism but since it's been brought up, having a good rodent control program around the farm is really important. We all know what rats can do and mice can spread droppings and disease all over the place. I'm making more of an effort in controlling/eliminating mice at the present time.

+1, I keep bait blocks out year round on the farm... Constantly fed on, constantly replaced...
