New Englanders! Much ado about New England! - Page 160

I have a question for my fellow New Englanders... Can this constant rising and lowering temperatures cause hens to molt? I vaguely recall reading that temperatures can cause such a thing, but cannot recall where or if the weather pattern we've been experiencing would even be enough to cause a bird to molt.

There are two reasons I'm thinking at least one of my hens might be molting: 1. there are feathers all over their enclosed pen/coop and 2. we're not getting very many eggs. I know it might partially be because of their recent stress in being moved to a new home; I'm just curious if someone might be molting because of all the feathers.

Thanks in advance!

THis is a technical question--you may want to post in the behavior section. Maney people understand NEw England weather .  My girls are always loosing a few feathers here and there. If they could outright molt now--beyond my level of knowledge>

One of our production reds molted in Feb. Lost almost all her feathers at once. We had to move her to the heated tack room for a couple of weeks until she feathered back out.

HI  Everyone.. Haven't been on this thread in a while... Can't say I care much for the new forum.... I no longer recieve update emails about new post hu.gif  And that sucks!  Oh well ... I bought 100% English BBS Orpington Chicks last May to add to my flock.  My girls are busy busy busy... giving me 3 doz eggs a day :)  I have 10 chicks over 2 weeks old availble  and 3 incubators filled to capacity.  Some will be 100% while others will be 7/8% and 3/4%. Due to hatch  4-28.  Inquiries welcome :)

Been getting the garden boxes set up for the new season :)  while I wait for my new baby goats to kid.   Also a dear friend is sending me a  couple of white Sebbie goslings from Metzer Farm for a belated B-day present :)  They are due to arrive around May 1st.:)  I would very much like to get a female saddle back and a female splash.. perhaps even a smooth breasted one.  :)  Aww live is never dull in NH :)

It takes a little getting used to, this new forum. You can get email updates, have you looked at the profile page and set the selection to emails?  The mother's day hatchathon goes to my email . . .so maybe you can get updates via emails, too. GL
