Will come back to the site in a couple of months--maybe then it will be working--the other site was more primative, but at least it functioned.

I just wanted to let you know that the old platform was about to collapse with the weight of all the new people and something had to be done. There was no way to keep it around apparently.

We hope you will come back before then! There is no other place like BYC and we welcome you. frow.gif fl.gif  hugs.gif

I have noticed that when composing a pm for a user name that contains a special character, specifically the @ symbol, the user's name doesn't auto-fill.

The new system was designed to only allow alphanumeric characters.  The instructions say, "Usernames must be 4-15 characters and should contain only alphanumeric characters and single spaces between words."

We were able to convert everyone's existing usernames over (even if they didn't match those requirements), but some of the backend systems and features (like auto PM name fill-in) may not function with the odd characters.

The best bet is for any members with usernames that don't match those guidelines and who are having problems to request a username change.

These members should:

1)  Make sure the name you want is available by doing a search for the username you want.
2)  Make sure the name is one you will stick with permanently.
3)  Contact any moderator or admin with the username you want
4)  Once your name is changed it is a good idea to post a note in your signature or elsewhere to let people know... this is especially needed for members that have been here a long time.

Remember: Usernames must be 4-15 characters and should contain only alphanumeric characters and single spaces between words.

"When uploading a file, the system should be set to check if we 'agree that we are not violating TOS' BEFORE attempting to upload, not after I waited 10 minutes then it errors out so I have to start over.

thanks"

I've forgotten to check the box, and instead of instantly letting me know- it went through the whole process of uploading, then gave the error and 'forgot' the upload. I had to start over. If you are going to require a checkbox have the system check the checkbox before uploading - please?

Oh No, Jean . . . not again!  he.gif   About once every two or three months, either when I get up in the morning, or sometimes when I get home at night, all my desktop icons will be totally scrambled - nothing where it used to be.  I've never been able to track down the reason.  I've even called Dell to see if they can help.

Being a total computer geek, here's what I would suggest:  First, check your installed programs to see if any program updates were installed behind the scenes on your computer in the last 24 hours.  If there is one and it isn't improtant, you might un-install it.  The second option, which has become one of my personal favorites over the past couple of years, is to do a "System Restore".  Your computer will suggest a date to restore back to, usually 24 - 48 hours ago.  You don't lose anything, but it seems to reset programs - it always works to reset my desktop icons.  My third suggestion, ff you have a security program installed that runs scans once or month or every couple of weeks, you might look and see when it did it's last scan.  It may not like something that it sees with BYC.

I hope one of those helps.
