I'm in Houston. I'd be interested in getting the ordinances regarding chicken ownership changed. Are you still working on this?

I live in Spring, TX (just north of Houston). This is unincorporated Harris County, and I'm trying to find out what the laws are. There doesn't seem to be anything on the municode.com website for Harris County. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paula

I live in the southwest area of Houston, Tx and would really like to help change the ordinance. Is this still being planned?

Yes Hen for Houston is still going; we're now a large group and we are just getting started!

I manage a website, hensforhouston.wordpress.com where we've been posting research and staying connected. There is a sign up form on the home page so that you can get  on the listserve and find out about meetings. (We have our next big meeting on April 22.) We have over 80 members!

Hens for Houston will be at the Houston Arboretum tomorrow April 14 from 10 am - 4 pm with a booth for Earth Day. We'll have several members and feathered friends there, talking about chickens!

A side note, which you'll see explained on the site as well, we don't have a proposed ordinance yet! We have ideas what will constitute a respectful ordinance, based on other cities' laws and Houston's needs. We've been focusing on the research, but very soon we will be drafting a proposal. So it's a very exciting time to get involved!

I am in Alvin...well outside the city so we can pretty much do what we want.

You need to add League City to your list.  I just moved from there last year.  While I didnt have chickens when I lived there, I looked up the code for my sister.  I am trying to get her to get a couple of silkies for my young nieces.  They have a pretty good set up for having chickens in a suburban area.

Also, check out the Wabash feed store on Washington, and Quality Feed on (I thinnk) N.Main near Airline.  Both of them sell chickens.

I have a question. Will we be able bring some of our chickens to the meeting?
