White leghorns with black spots on legs (pic.) - Page 2

did anyone ever get an answer on this, my barred rock has exactly those spots too, (only one of them) that I just noticed today, she is also in the middle of pretty severe molt...?

Hi

I'm new to the chicken world.  I have 2 silver laced Wyandottes and 2 golden.  I noticed small blueish black spots on one of my birds leg and feet.  looks like bruises to me.  I am waiting to see if there is any change. they are not raised or crusty.  I think they may be from pecking themselves.  Only one has them.   Will let every one know if I fined anything else out.

Omg, my maran has those spots, they just appeared about 3 weeks ago as well. Have you had any luck finding out what they are?

It is bruising.  Sometimes birds have discolored scales, but that is strictly as a result of genetics and is a constant thing.  Newly darkened scales are the result of injury or scaly leg mites.  Mine were the result of injury, as I suspected at the time.

On my leghorn it appeared after she matured (nine months old) i got in contact with an avian pathogist as Kathy suggested and he said it was pigment and nothing to be concerned about unless they grew or were raised.
