I just placed and order for chicks to come some time the week of Feb 27th.

This is our first time ordering chicks. I had planned on getting fertilized eggs locally and using several of my broody hens, but I need a new coop for my current flock and I didn't want to wait another month or two for before starting chicks. I also wasn't sure that I could do it right this first time out. With the new group I have several KNOWN setter breeds coming, so I hope to use them next year for our own eggs.

Hubby agreed to let me have them inside for the first few weeks, giving more time for him to get a coop built - we are moving our current flock into a barn sized coop and using the small one we have for raising new chicks.

I'm so excited! Can't wait...oh, the time will go by so slowly now, I just know it. Although, with a new coop and fencing to set up I hope it will pass very quickly!
