I own 3 pit bulls(6 years old) and 1 Presa canario (7 months) .. do any of the people posting on this thread saying presa canario are horrible for "livestock/ranch/farm/they'll kill your kids and eat your turkeys" have real experience with this breed?  I let my pup roam 10 acres yard with the chickens and turkeys... she hasn't killed any yet.. if the turkey tom gets within 30 feet and starts puffing up at her she will chase him away from the house, but it's more of a herding maneuver than "i'm going to kill you".. once she feels the tom is far enough away from the house she comes back.  I have goats and horses as well and she doesn't bother them..My friend has a 2 year old son that plays with her (under supervision of course) but she is always gentle and never aggressive with him, in fact she's careful not to knock him down.. like she realizes it's a "puppy" and not an adult you can play rough with..   I honestly wish I had never got my pit bulls and just started with a presa.. don't get me wrong, I love my pits.. the Presa is just so much more intelligent..anyways that's my thought on the subject, granted my dog is still a puppy and not full grown, she might turn into a terror when she's an adult, who knows

PS. each one of my pits has killed a chicken when they were adolescents and got in HUGE trouble, they don't mess with any of MY animals anymore... but you must train your dog from a young age, you can't just get a dog and throw it in the yard and expect it to protect your things.. they must be taught right from wrong, and you have to acclimate them to your animals.. when I got my presa she was 4 months old and I carried her into the horse paddock and let her go nose to nose with my horses, te horses sniffed her and checked her out and she did the same, my intent was to let the horses know this is my new dog on the property, get used to it, and for the dog, there are horses here and they are not to be chased/attacked, I did the same thing with my goats

All dogs descendants of wolves, forget breed and remember you're dealing with domesticated wolves

Presa Canario killed our neighbor's niece (2 houses down from us) in Miami.

Not the dog's fault.  At all.  The owner got a 10 month sentence, the dog was euthed.

Moron owners.  This breed seems to attract a certain "type" of owner...not every time...but often enough.

Unfortunately, in Miami, this breed is a favorite among drug dealers.  The breed is capable of carrying out its job.....but it isn't always able to discriminate a "real" threat  of a law enforcement officer from the perceived threat of a 7 year old swimming in a pool.

Poor little girl.  Poor dog.

LEO are a "real" threat to you and yours where you live?  I thought they were supposed to "Serve and Protect"

My comment was sarcastic.

Law enforcement officers are only a threat to those breaking the law.

Our home was in a very nice area of South Miami.  Gated community.
