Has anyone got malays from ideal hatchery? and if so than did they fit the breeds characteristics? cause i would like to get some for showing
 
ya i was just wondering cause i cant find any local breeder of them anywhere
 
Don't waste your time with hatchery malay if you're serious about showing. Get in contact with a real breeder, someone that exhibits their stock in shows you would be interested in going to. Lots of time, breeders will pre-sale birds and bring them to the buyers at the shows.

Also, don't be afraid of having birds shipped to you. Just check to make sure your local post office will accept live birds for pick up before you buy.

I ordered a suprise chick straight run and they sent me a Malay male and a Shamo male last year, the malay is very friendly. I don't know much about the breed though other than they are supposed to be the tallest fowl. I think he's close to what they should be.
 
I gotta ask with curiousity - How tall are your boys? Do they try and fight with all their might with other roosters/each other? Are they hard feathered? (feathers firmly against body) Do they stand upright with long legs and neck? Are the tails carried horizontally or below horizontal?

I'm curious as to how Ideal's Oriental stock really is.
 
X2 i included one of thier saipian games in a recent order from ideal. obviously i can't expect anything like a true saipian but i've never owned gamefowl beyond modern an oeg bantams (quite different lol) and i figure a $3.50 hatchery chick is a better place to start then some $300 breeder birds in case it doesn't work out. i found a simply amazing blue red malay pair for sale i was really tempted to get, but i want to get in a little experience with less valuable fowl first.

There have been threads on Malays , Saipans etc. so simply do a search here. Also Feathersite has some basic information and photos. Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities has a website and breeders list. If you go to an APA show you will see what real Orientals are supposed to be. Most breeders agree that Oriental games cannot be mass produced and in fact, some of the Hatcheries actually sell crossbreds. The uninformed probably would never know the difference , so I guess it doesn't matter if one is happy with what ever they have. However , expect some Flack from people who know what they are supposed to be, if you go to sell them or their offspring.
 
of course i wouldn't. i don't let my hatchery birds reproduce except for my own use and for easter eggers. this is just an experiment for fun. i'm just wondering what i can expect :) not a whole lot of info on true saipans out there is there?
