Boerboel?

Don'tcha just hate it when someone resurrects an old post?

I just found this one and was excited to learn there are other Boerboel owners on here! Here's last week's vid of our 3 yo Kruger with one of his playmates, our Sulmtaler rooster, here on the farm:

Rayna's a super looking Boerboel, too, and that's a great picture! I can't think of another breed that fits our farm lifestyle as well. We're actually looking for another one to keep Kruger company. We don't really want to go through the puppy thing again, so an older dog or a rescued Boerboel would fit well. That is, if I can find a grant writer for the dog food!

Thanks! We adopted Rayna officially last year thru the organization we foster mastiffs thru. Rayna recently bloated, however, she survived the surgery.

True story:

While a foster, we took Rayna to our vet for something simple (can't remember what at the moment). The vet office manager asked me what breed she was and I replied, "Boerboel." Office manager replied, "Yes, all your fosters are 'adorable' but what breed is she?" :) Good luck in your search for another Boerboel.

What organization do you foster for? We thought about doing that but it seems all the rescue organizations are in larger cities and/or more populated areas. We're in the boonies (yay!) but that makes the logistics a challenge. I'm watching a lot of the rescues for a dog, but so far nothing has shown up anywhere within driving distance, except for one in Colorado. And that rescue seems to be much more interested in its own procedures than in helping the dogs. I contacted them about a female Bb they listed and all they would say is 'fill out an application' (which I did), then it was like 'we'll find a dog for you sometime'. Nope, bad attitude.

Oh, and yes, we've basically given up on getting people to understand when we say 'Boerboel'. Now its' just 'South African Mastiff'. Then we're pleasantly surprised when someone says "Oh, a Boerboel!!"
