I know you aren't complaining! I appreciate the feedback. When my own recent hatch of EF went poorly, I suspected that either the young roo has fertility issues or the older hens haven't let him (ahem) have his way with them. lol Having 1 of your eggs develop says something, as opposed to none at all like Hen Thymes.
I certainly am not going to be sending these EF eggs out to anyone until my hatch rate goes up. Info/feedback like this is invaluable.
The hens are cranking out eggs like crazy....but they are only fit to eat if they aren't fertile or don't develop! I'll be setting more soon, plus I have some in an incubator right now, to see if things improve. The hens may decide they like this young fellow after all.....once they have trained him up right!
Meanwhile, I am sorry! Every egg I send out I am hoping will fulfill its destiny and become a chicken!
Half of the Serama eggs I sent you have made it to lock down? Whispering a little hatching prayer that they make it out safe, sound and healthy!
Please let me know!
Deb

Hi Deb, no I'm not complaining either, just thought you would like to know. I go in LD today so I will relook them all over again but I am pretty positive only 3 serama had any development and there was no development in the EF. Do I need to crack them open??
*Forgot to mention that we do incubate in a Sportsman, so everything stays consistent.
Beth and I are in the same state but it appears our packages go thru different hubs.

Hen Thymes,
I am sure that you are doing everything just right and this is an issue with my new rooster. I sent you Egyptian Fayoumi eggs totally separate from the bantam swap because, like I said, I have so many right now.
The feedback from you and others tells me I have to trouble shoot what is lowering the fertility of them. I am hoping it is youth and inexperience and that things will improve over time.
As far as the Serama eggs....I am not sure why you only got three. Who knows if it is the PO's handling or weather along the way, there are so many variables. I have shipped Serama eggs for years now and had folks who have hatched out 16/18 and some who hatched none. (Sent them more to try again and same result...so THAT I consider user error, lol.) I hope you do get the three that developed!
Let me know,
Deb

Hey Deb, just put the three in LD and candled everything else again. It looks like there were only two others that had any signs (a small red blood ring) they were marked MFS, none of the other serama eggs had any development. The EF's were all completely clear. I will keep you posted on the three that went into LD.
I too ship a lot of eggs and know the risks, it happens. Feedback is always good. Thank you for the swap!
