My daughter joined 4H this February and we have been raising 6 day old chicks that we received 4 weeks ago and then received 4 day old chicks more plus 2 three day old chicks be bought 2 weeks ago. I'm no expert but your smaller chicks look about a week older than our RIR 2 week olds and the others look similar to our 4 week olds.

We have had ours under a red brooder light day and night, with great results until fully feathered. No pecking noticed. We have 2 separate large storage tubs, the kind with built in wheels and my hubby made a top with a wood border and a wire mesh stapled on to it. The larger ones have not nocked the top off. We only put the 4 week olds in one of the bins at night with just enough light to dimly see them and they are happy, in the basement. They are in an enclosed coop during the day right now, until my husband finishes the run. The 4H leader says it's ok from 4 weeks on, when they are fully feathered, to leave them in a coop overnight as long as it's not below 65 out and in a draft less environment. The 2 week olds we have under the brooder, in the other bin full time but with the light raised so it's about 85 in it. On dry warm days we put them out side for 2 hrs-4 hrs depending on the conditions in the covered outside pen the older ones use to be in.

Originally we had the day olds with the two week olds separated by cardboard in one brooder for three days, then put them together for a week. The younger ones would sleep when we put the older ones in their outside covered pen for two hours, then we put them back. I noticed the younger ones weren't growing as fast as the older ones had so we separated them into the two bins.

They can hear each other at night, but I think the more experienced commentators had great ideas about separating them with a mesh divider once they are all in the coop. I would just worry about your younger ones needing more heat at night currently.

I recently got 3 six week old chickens. they are so easy to take care of. what you need to do is find them another place other than a box. make it very nice and cozy for them. give them lot's of shade in the summer time. do NOT give them a heating lamp in the winter or summer. they need to adapt to the weather change. make sure their water is in the shade so it doesn't get hot. Another thing you have to do is let them out almost every day so they can get used to the outside world. At night bring them inside and keep away from cats and dogs. They need lots of rest. Handle them a lot so they get used to humans and so they are docile. Please reply and tell me what happened! thanks!
