Best Quiet Egglayers for Texas Heat???

The biggest problem with buffs they go broody A LOT. Unless you are raising your own chicks, they make great mothers. My two year olds have been broody 10 times in two years. So no eggs for 2-3 months, then molting in the fall, so maybe eggs three months out if the year. If you need eggs, not a good choice. But they are pretty. Sex links, like red star are great ! My best are my Amber links 360 eggs a year! Barred Rocks are good, so are my Welsummers. My Astrolorps go broody too. Get black sex links instead.

I was thinking a out welsummers but I read they were noisier than others. I don't need just a ton of eggs. I'm more interested in a variety of eggs and birds. I was going to start buying pullets if I can find them and then make the step to raising from chicks. We won't be allowed roosters so I may have to find some other way around that to actually breed. Not sure what I'll do there.

You are the first person I have ever met on BYC to say that you Austrolorps go broody! I have had 9 broody BA hens in the past 5 months...

Nice to meet you.

Make that TWO!
We had 10 different breeds, and our Australorp was the only one to ever go broody, and she did it quite frequently.
I live in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston (also a deed restricted community, but our neighbors enjoy the weekly fresh eggs). Our best layers were actually our Ameraucana's, but I'm sure other breeds do well also. Our golden sexlinks were older when we got them, but even after two years, they still crank out an egg every two days or so. Super docile, too. If/when we ever start over we will likely just get gold sexlinks and ameraucana's only. Never heard a peep from either.
My noisiest ones in the summer were my White Brahma, RIR, and Dominicker.

Clayborn Farmes raises and sells hens specifically bred for being able to deal with the heat in Texas. It is a small, family owned hatchery.
