I'm setting my first batch of eggs tonight! (Well, in a real incubator anyway.) Anyone else? I've got Easter Egger eggs, then a mix of wyandottes, Buff orpington, sex-links, RIRs, leghorns, and barred rocks! So excited! wee.gif

What about you?

Here is an awesome hatching calendar I'll be using. :)

1 RIR rooster, 1 RIR hen, 1 White Leghorn hen, 1 Gold Barnevelder hen, 1 bantam rooster, 1 bantam hen,  lots of chicks with more on the way, one black lab mix puppy, Maggie (or Maggot, if she's bad), 1 happily un-pregnant tortoise shell cat, Jack, 6 kittens, and 1 rabbit (That until 2-28-12 we thought was a boy...).

Thank you for the calendar link.  I printed it out and hung it above my incubator....which is empty for now. sad.png

I did all the testing and regulating this past week to do my first set of eggs.  AND, I just ordered a dozen Silkie eggs tonight. love.gif

Hopefully by next week, I'll get to set those eggs and be a week behind you!  Hope you have a great hatch.  -Darla

Are they all purebred?

I was building a cabinet incubator but I have a friend with several broodies so I gave her a bunch of eggs yesterday.

So around midnight last night she set two clutches of eggs under a silkie and a turkey.

Black Penedesencas, EEs and a mix of Minorca, Jaers, Blue JG, Ancona and Blk Leghorn under a Partridge Pene roo.

God bless the entire world - no exceptions.
Russian Bees plus Black Penedesencas, Blue Jersey Giants, Jaerhons, Partridge Rocks, Anconas, Black Leghorn, Frizzle, Welsummer, White Minorca, Ameraucana, Gold Laced Wyandotte & occasionally Cornish/Rocks, Freedom Rangers.

Good luck on your hatch, Darla! Silkies are good chickens from what I've heard. And cute! Let me know how it goes. :)

CC, no they are not all purebred. The RIR's are, and the Orpingtons. The rest are mixed with either RIR, orpington or Wyandotte so hopefully they will turn to be good chickens. I like all those breeds. :) I'm hoping I don't have to many sex-link eggs in there but we couldn't sort them out from the rest.

What exactly is a sex-link chicken?

From what I've read a sex-link is a hybrid chicken that doesn't properly mate with other breeds. It was bred so that they can be sexed on day one accurately. I'm not sure they will hatch if mixed with another breed of roo. :|
