Anyone starting a hatch today? - Page 4

There were 2 pips in the incubator this morning...nothing new since.hu.gif Guess I just have to let them rest!

Wife of 1 wonderful husband, homeschooling mom to 1 super son and "MamaRoo" to 1 Shih-Tzu (that can't be trusted around my chicks), 1 RIR, 1 BO, 1 PBR and we provide room & board to occasional Cornish X (give or take 8 weeks)!

I glanced in the hatcher on my way to work this morning, and there were several pips. I'm leaving tonight for the Fresno poultry show, so I guess my husband will have to let me know how they do tomorrow. I have one Marans egg in there, and they are notoriously late hatchers, so I don't expect to crack open the hatcher until Sunday evening.

Cowgirl -your patience amazes me.  Maybe hatching gets less stressful with experience. thumbsup.gif

Are you showing or buying @ the Fresno show.  I had planned to go and look for "SQ Silkies" but then I decided to order these eggs and try hatching myself.  I think it was a good choice financially as well as educationally (since we incorporated it into our science curriculum).

Have a nice time at the show!

Yes, it gets less exciting when you do it all the time.

I'm showing one bird, this is my first show. My cockerel got in a fight, so I had to scratch him, but I will have one large fowl Silver Laced Wyandotte pullet in the show. I still have to give her another bath today before I drive down there to coop in. Should be interesting, but I'm happy to be starting at this size show and not a giant one.

How did you all do? I hope better than I did. I had the worst hatch of the year. 8/10 Silver Laced Wyandottes, which is fine, but only 2/11 Blue Laced Reds and I've been getting 100% hatches on those. And one Marans egg is in there, but that one was iffy when I candled.

Hey Cowgirl, how was the Fresno show?

So far, only 4 out of 10 eggs hatched.  2 of them hatched yesterday (Day 21) and then 2 hatched today (Day 22).  I still have 6 in the 'bator and none of them even have a pip? hu.gif  I'm still really hoping more hatch.  Have you ever had any hatch on 3 different days before?

Sorry to hear that your bad news. I just went down to the sheds to feed and water animals and my banty has hatched all 6 of her eggs. The little ones all seem to be doing fine. They look kind of like chipmunks with 2 black stripes down thier backs.
