Awesome! And I know. I have some dark brown eggs... ugh. I can't even tell what's going on in them!

I wish I kept my Ameraucana rooster !!  I had to find a home for him a while back because I was over run with roosters !  My friend has him and he is beautiful !! , I have two hens, and Without my thinking I wish they can hatch for chickies..   !!  I love their eggs..

I've been candling, too!  I put all the lighter shelled eggs in the front so I can easily get to them.  It's a lot easier to see what's going on in a white egg than a dark brown egg, like I had the last time!  Fun, fun, fun!!!  LOL

This morning I was turning my eggs and I accidently, somehow managed to drop one of my brown eggs. Didn't turn out to be a bad drop. It was more dent-like. When I candled it yesterday it looked like it was starting to develop. So I decided to TRY and salvage it. So I looked at some older discussions on here and read that putting unscented candle wax over the area would give it a chance. Sooo hopefully the little one will make it. fl.gif

Oh no!  I'm always afraid that will happen when I'm messing with the eggs!  Hopefully that works.........I've also heard that it can.

I candled my batch and I'm glad that I did! Found a rotten one that was starting to give off a slightly gross smell..... Most look like theres development, a few I can't quite tell yet.

Dreamer, hope your egg continues to develop!

Happy candling everyone! big_smile.png

Tomorrow will be the first day I take two eggs to candle for the class.  I incubated six eggs from my newly laying Leghorns so we could easily see inside.  We just candled them to check and all but two absolutely are developing and the little sweeties can be seen!  TOO CUTE!  Now I feel really bad risking the baby to take them.  hmm.png

How could you tell one was starting to rot?  Two of the leghorn eggs seem different then the ones I can tell are developing, but I'm not sure how to tell what's going on.  Any pointers?

frow.gifI set 41 eggs from our flock the morning of the first. DH doesn't remember me telling him I ordered the Hovabator, LOL. This will be my first test . fl.gif We have Black Giants, EE, and Cuckoo Maran Roos over their own hens as well as Welsumer a few Buff Orp, Cochins, Delaware and Light Brahma hens. Makes for hard candleing tho. I candled a couple lighter ones yesterday to show DH but will wait till day 10 to do the rest since many are dark or green/blue. I do have some problems keeping humidity up. The dry method is great, I hear, but my bator would stay below 25% if I left it alone as it is very dry here in our part of Texas. I try to keep it between 30 and 40 %.  Haven't had any temp problems, steady there. I set mine up a week  ahead to tweek it. celebrate.gifI really am trying to be nonchalaunt about the whole thing. I check the temp/humidity several times a day but only open to add a couple drops of water or so a day and  CAN"T WAIT droolin.gif till the evening of the 10th !!!

Good luck everyone!

Yup - TRYING to be nonchalaunt..................  I know all about that!  LOL  I can pretend I'm excited about doing this with the kids in my class, but really I'm just excited!!!  It just gives me an excuse!

You are going to have a very interesting mix of chickens.  I have 3 cuckoo marans hens and really like them.
