I was thrilled to see that one of the "travel babies" hatched.  He made it!!  I took a total of 4 eggs to the classes and had the 3 that were actually still growing marked.  The kids are going to thrilled!  I've seen a couple of the kids out and about this past week, and the first thing they do is ask me about the chicks!  Zootopia - your grandson is going to be so excited!

I'm also wondering about taking my babies out and putting them in the brooder.  Now there are two more wet babies, so I guess I'll wait some more.

It is fun!  It makes me really look forward to April when I set the eggs that I'm keeping!

Some of the chicks just come out screaming!!  ep.gif It always amazes me that something so tiny can be so loud!! gig.gif  I am so excited to hear that your travelers made it!!  Yeah!!  woot.gif  You should get pictures of the kids with the chicks when you take them to school!!  love.gif

Zootopia and Jenanneray ( and anyone else I am forgetting to name)  fl.gif  good luck with the rest of you babies, I can't wait to see pics!!

Well 20 out of the 21 that went into lockdown hatched for me.  One egg was quite strange, the air cell went down the side, instead of being in the top end.  These were home eggs not shipped.  The air cell went the entire length and took about 1/3 of the egg.  When I did the eggotopsy I think the chick just ran out of air, it had tried to pip but had missed the air cell and never externally pipped.  sad.png  Sad, but I have 20 beautiful babies, and can't wait to see how they grow.

It amazes me, too, Rosey!  To go from breakfast to lungs like that in 21 days is something!!

I just peeked in the incubator and there are slimy chicks all over!  I've lost count now of how many chicks are in there.  It doesn't look like I'm going to be putting any in the brooder anytime soon, either.  It's a mess in there..........although a very cute and exciting mess!  big_smile.png

A few that are just pipped are yelling right now. Loud little fuzzies, they are! None hatched out yet, I guess they had to hatch all at the same time so I wouldn't be able to tell who was who.

Im up to 12 pips now, at least one is an EE from a blue/green shell. I'm really excited about these Ee's... They should be really good layers, the lady I bought them from had a rir roo over her ameracauna hens.

Eta: make that 13 pips. No one hatched out yet.

I have one chick officially hatched, looks like I may have a black sex link. woot.gif a couple more are zipping right now, and the last of my EEs are peeping inside the shell, about to pip...... I might hatch out all 25 chicks!!!!!!! (thought originally was 26, but found an early quitter I missed on lockdown.)

I'll post pictures when more hatch out, probably this evening big_smile.png

Thebanthams, how are your chicks coming along? Did the one with its foot sticking out of the shell hatch out ok?

Three hours passed , I may have saved the life of this little chickie !!  celebrate.gif She wont stop chirping !!   My problem, I had to carefully pulled the shells away and some membranes off.  one little piece is dried over its head and part of its eyes. what can I do to get it off ?  She is still in the incubator.

Glad she's doing ok!!  I have no idea about how to get that off - hopefully someone else will jump in.

Mine are still hatching.  One just hatched and three more are working at it.  :)

Dumb question:  When they're mutts do they simply look like a mix as chicks or will they look like their parents did as chicks?  For example:  The leghorn egg seemed to hatch a very, very light chick with greenish legs.  I suspect the father was a Welsummer or Black Copper Marans.  Yet, the little chick doesn't look like any of them as chicks really.
