help me hatch in a LG incubator, emu eggs, temperature and humidity !!! OMG a mess

Thanks so much!!! I havent got any of those 2 so maybe Im lucky!!! I will let you all know the progress of the incubation, oh another thing, when I manually turn the eggs I do not feel them too hot like a little bit colder at the bottom than the top its this the way it works? Thanks again!!!!

in nature when the male emu is sitting on the nest the top of the egg that is against his skin is warmer then the bottom of the egg.. lol.. both books agreed on that fact

I need to add to my emu library.. unfortunately there aren't very many books available on the incubation of ratite eggs

I found this thread. Thanks for sharing and posting on emus. I do not plan to keep emus. I have friends who do. I happen to win a single emu egg on auction as the back up bidder and was looking for general information. I'm only on day 2 and I don't have emu experience but I do have friends helping. They will be taking the chick from me assuming I can get it to hatch. They are excited to possibly get a chick from a new bloodline to breed with one of their unpaired emus. So, I am incubating one emu egg in a brinsea eco 20 incubator with some river rocks as heat sinks. I have my temp at 97.5 but no hydrometer. I will only be monitoring the weight loss and guestimating at the humidity. Those cheap weather ones never seemed to be accurate for me. (a lot of times with my chicken, duck and goose eggs, I was better off without any humidity instruments)

I'm looking forward to see how it goes for you. My egg started off at 550 grams.

you may want to have a back up "hatcher" for when the chick is ready to break out of the shell.. I have 2 Brinsea eco 20s and even with the tray removed there isn't enough head space for a chick the size of an emu to hatch out comfortably... So I'm incubating eggs in them with the tray removed.. and when the chicks are ready to hatch the eggs will be moved to a bigger incubator
