I spent months researching what breed I wanted when I decided to get chickens about 4 years ago. I settled on the Welsummer for their reputaion as a great back-yard all-purpose bird, which is...

That's fine. I'm ok with you telling me what you have but I just can't have you making specific requests for what you get. Actually it is a little easier if I know what you have.

When I send eggs I send eggs that are 3 days old or newer. Generally you see it listed 3 days but some will send up to 5 days old. The older the eggs, the harder the shipping is on them. Eggs to be shipped should be stored in a cool room and turned several times a day. I've seen it listed the are best stored between 50-60 degrees. I have an extra egg turner that I put my eggs in.
I haven't even thought of the extra turner idea! I have an extra turner, awesome idea. Do you put the turner in a bag or cover it somehow to reduce moisture loss?

Nope, I have the turner sitting in a cool room and have had no problem with moisture loss. I set my eggs every weekend so the eggs are no more than 7 days old. The shipped eggs are only 3 days old.

I am so mad .. I will no longer be sending hatching eggs through the Postal Office anymore. They have lost four packages that I have sent well more than that now.. Makes me so mad. Makes me not want to send any eggs out anymore with anyone cause I am afraid that they will get lost no matter who I send them through... I don't know if I'll ever have enough money to send hatching eggs with UPS :( :(
I was going to put count me out cause I am so mad for having four packages sent out only to get lost . I guess I can send them through UPS sorry everyone

Sorry about your frustrations .........
Are they loosing only eggs shipment or everything? Are your boxes marked egg? Did you know that some facilities confiscate packages marked egg if they don't have the proper NPIP paperwork attached. ???? I do not mark my boxes eggs anymore.... I have had boxes returned to my, because FedEx does not want to ship "LIVES" over the weekend...... PO uses FedEx for the air freight. I am sure there is bunches of info here about the PO and hatching eggs.
Pack the eggs to the best of your ability.... mark the packages " Fragile" "please handle with care" add "Thank you " etc.....
Personally, I don't think our packages get any special treatment marked as eggs from the air freight end. Our home POs maybe ....but not once it leaves their hands to sorting facilities etc......it is a gamble.
Please don't give up........

yep I put Fragile Hatching eggs please do not x-ray etc etc etc. all over the box... Its not my post office that I have a problem with its the sorting center as soon as they got the eggs they didn't scan the packages so all you can see with the delivery confirmation number is that they left my post office when they are due to be shipped and that's about it. Nothing after that usually when that happens I have to go back to my post office to see if they have more information on the packages. Well here in Montana it doesn't matter if I am or not NPIP certified and they haven't confiscated any hatching egg packages before cause I have had successful deliveries with my hatching eggs.. I usually pack my eggs in bubble wrap surrounded by bubble wrap and secured so there is no bouncing going on.. I've been sending hatching eggs for a year now and this has been the first time like anything like this has happened...
