Alfalfa poisonous for chickens

hello there, tried posting this earlier but evidently it didn't take. so here goes again....

Cornell University has an excellent article on alfalfa toxicity in poultry and swine. now i understand the concerns and how to work around it. i will continue to feed alfalfa in addition to their primary feeds but i will not overfeed them on the alfalfa. please read the article. it explains exactly what the possible toxicity is. good luck!

I give my flock alfalfa cubes soaked in warm water for 30 min which rehydrates and softens the alfalfa. They also get layer crumbles, oyster shell, and for treats they get a mixture of layer crumbles, scratch feed, mealy worms and sunflower seeds. My hens are in excellent shape and very content. They have a large outdoor pen and get supervised free range for 1-2 hrs most days. I think they enjoy the alfalfa a lot and seem to thrive on it.
