I would order from Pivett again they were very nice to work with ,they call to confirm my order and it arrived when they said with all chicks alive they sent two extra also I did lose 3 inthe first two days but the rest are growing like weeds

I ordered 30 LF Brahmas from Privett in Aug.  They all arrived allive, but lost several in the first few days.  As they started to grow, I realized one had a bugged out eye and another one was not the right colors.  Both of those never grew and died with in a few weeks.

As the months wore on, I didnt see them growing.  I was giving them grower feed but they refused to get over about 3-4 pounds.  Today they are 7 months old and I got my first egg....and it PROVES they are bantams.  These chickens are the size of my silkies and lay bantam sized eggs.

I did call Privett a month ago and told them they sent bantams and they RESENT my order!!  They were very nice and customer service was great....HOWEVER....they sent:

31 chicks

4 arrived dead

1 on deaths door and died in 24 hours

6 roos (only five were ordered, but 6 were blue-marked as roos....and this doesnt count if they mis-sexed any)

2 Red sexlinks

so if you are counting...I ordered 25 pullets and got only 18 :(  I called and told them this and they refunded my money for the 7 mis-sent/dead pullets.

My review:  Customer Service was GREAT.....The quality is POOR!!!!!!

Heres a RIR from Privett i picked up at my local feed store a few weeks ago

I ordered 30 chicks from privett 15 dominique,5 buff orpington, 5 rhode island red, and 5 giant cochin. I received my chicks and they were all in god condition and healthy i have no complaints and customer service was good. They caled me the day my chicks shipped and let me know what the tracking number was and that they was shipping them on time. I would recommend them to anyone.

I didn't get mine from them directly but through our local feed store and they order from Privett which is only 4 hours away from here so the chicks don't have far to travel. I have (3) 5 week old Plymouth Rocks, (4) 4 week old Buff Orpingtons, and (3) 1 week old Ameraucanas (probably EE's from everything I have been learning but I don't mind at all). They have all been doing wonderfully! I lost one Buff Orpington 2 days after we got them and I was just devastated. She was less than a week old and we couldn't figure out why she died. Other than that no complaints.

As far as I can tell all the 4 and 5 week olds are pullets. They are mostly all very sweet birds. 2 of my Buffs are a little too peck happy, they will go after anything: earrings, fingers, eyes, other bird's toes, etc... Not sure what to do about that but the rest are very sweet. One Buff is very small but she seems happy and healthy and I don't mind her being significantly smaller than the others. I named her after my boyfriend's Mom since she is a very short lady too ;)

The Rocks have been especially wonderful. Super sweet. I brought two of them with me today while I ran into town for 2 quick errands and carried one around Petsmart with me. I kept my arm bent and she nested in my elbow and was very quiet the whole time. I had them in a box in the front seat and on the way home she kept climbing out and was only content if I let her sit in my cupped hand and sleep :) Another one of the Rock's snuggled with me on the couch and we fell asleep together. I laid a towel down just in case but turns out I didn't need to do that, she immediately just curled up and went to sleep with me.

So that being said this is my first time ever having chickens and (obviously) I just want them as little companion animals. I'm not going to eat them, show them, or try and breed them to sell as some fancy representation of their breed so I am perfectly happy with the chickens I got from Privett. People with other plans for their birds (4-H or the like) might feel differently. In fact, I read some reviews from people who show birds and they didn't seem pleased with what they got from Privett although those reviews were a few years old.

Finally, my boyfriend used to work at the local feed store and his brother has worked there for years. The both say the birds are of a good quality. The bf actually got kind of defensive when I explained why I was asking, haha! His brother continues to get his chickens there and most of his are 4 years old now. They seem pretty happy with them, again, they don't have any fancy or special plans for them, they just enjoy keeping them around and getting eggs from them. They have a few different varieties, different from what I have. Another guy who works there, a friend of ours, also has gotten all of his chickens through the feed store from Privett and he's equally as happy with them. He has the same 3 varieties that I got.

Last year and this year we got chicks from our local feed store in Washington state who gets the more exotic breeds through Privett. All the birds we've bought are not only healthy and beautiful, they have wonderful personalities and sweet dispositions. Ok...except one crazy Splash Sumatra hen who will peck you then twist the skin she has in her beak this way and that. But she's still a colorful part of the family. We had special ordered a Black Sumatra roo...they sent us 4 just to be sure! 3 were roos, one was a hen. Fine by us.

I hope when they were shut down years ago they've changed for the better. Would hate to know they don't treat their birds properly. They put out nice healthy chicks though.

Update: I have the following birds from Privett and everyone is doing great! With the exception of the little Buff Orpington I lost 2 days after I got her I have had no health issues and all of my birds are just wonderful! Out of the 15 birds that reached maturity only one is a Rooster and he came out of a straight run of mixed Bantams. I got 5 chicks out of that straight run and 4 of them ended up being hens.

I have had all of my chickens for over 6 months now and I adore them all. I think my Rooster is a real stunner although he has a little bit of white on the tips of his foot feathers which I am told are a sign of hatchery birds. I don't care, he is still gorgeous.
