Also, try die no mite strips. Can't remember where I got them.

Of course you need to thoroughly clean your coop and sorry to say for mites you really need to use poison. If they are on the hen(and are mites and not lice) then they are probably Northern Fowl Mites. What I read said the other type of mites don't stay on the chicken. They live in the coop and come out at night and feed on the chicken. Northern Fowl mites will kill your chickens.

LICE and MITES
Lice and mites can be a serious problem. By the time you see them, you may have a massive
infestation. If you see mites on your birds, you need to clean your coops thoroughly. Lice live
only on the birds
, but mites live off the birds and climb back on at night. Scoop all shavings
out of the coop, bag it and dispose of it in the trash (not the compost pile). Spray the entire
inside with the Frontline or poultry spray from the feed store, especially under and on top
of the roosts. Then apply Poultry Dust all over the floor and in the nest boxes. Add clean
shavings and some poultry dust to the nest boxes.
I also hang Die-No-Mite strips in the entrances to the coops.

OMG it worked! It always closes down on me when I try it but didn't this time. I thought it just did it because I'm already finding the threads. Hope it works from now on.

Have we gotten a final tally on the number of chicks hatched for the Easter yet? My curiosity is killing me! Anyone know?

There is a final tally.  Unfortunately, there were a lot of folks who did NOT report their hatch amount to the spreadsheet by the time specified.

Had everyone reported, there would have been a different result.

We are still trying to work through it all, but eventually the spreadsheet will be shared with everyone.

There will be a Brinsea winner because of "when" they posted...

We have 22 entrees for cutest chick pic.

There will be an initial judging and the 22 will be thinned down to somewhere between 8-11.

And then we'll most likely put the "finalists" into a poll.

_____________________________________________________________________________

We will also be figuring out as soon as we can the Best Hatch Rate (for those who sat 24 or more)... the winner will have to produce the pic in the thread where they showed the amount of eggs they sat and then a pic of the chicks they hatched.

Keeper of 26 hens,  4 PW Leghorns, 1 leghorn mix, 1 FBCMarans, 1 Australorp, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Mama Olive Eggers w/ 15 chicks each, 1 EE, a Barred Rock, a RIR, a CQ, 1 Delaware, 1 Black Star, a Splash Ameraucana, 3 W/BW Ameraucana pullets, 5 polish, 2 Welsummers and 41 juvies of various breeds. YIKES!  Time to SELL some chickens!

When I saw the prints in the driveway my first thought was coyotes, but when I thought about it, it didn't make sense. It was simply a kill. It wasn't for food. We were lucky that her sister was in the house. SSS is now in effect at our house.

Purry didn't go down without a fight. If she had, it just wouldn't have been like her. Here's a pic of her from last year. I'll miss her.

OMG! So sorry about your furry family member... hugs.gif I'm sure she put up a valiant fight. She was beautiful! love.gif

hugs.gif Oh, wow - that sucks! I've been there myself with DH... back when the first go-round with Iraq was going on. The "be prepared but wait" part is horrible! hugs.gif  Here's hoping it's a false alarm! fl.gif

I hope to keep in touch with all the wonderful people I have gotten to know here, on the other threads on BYC.  Just PM me if I'm missing something good!  Take care!

X 2  ...or, more like X 1000!  I didn't hatch any out, but I learned a TON, and met some more great folks, like I do on every thread here at BYC! thumbsup.gif

And, wisher1000, your consolation prize is darling. :-)
