Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long! - Page 551

BTW the thermometer in the top says 102, I'm debating on lowering it to 99. Any input on this would be helpful- I'm going to another thread to try and track this down but I'm close to 3 hrs behind schedule but still on track with Mountain Time if I can figure this out.

With a Brinsea Oct.20, I don't trust what it says on top, I had some bad hatches because I did.

Get a spot check thermometer and put it through the hole.

To keep mine at 99.5 degrees I have to set it on top for 100.7.  I had a couple of hatches where less than 25% hatched because the temp ended up being too low.

GOOD LUCK!

There are differing opinions.  I've had some decent success, just putting them right in the bator.

Others who are a tad more experienced than me say to give them two days resting in the bator and then plugging in the turner.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I got a couple of the analog hygrometers from Petco and tested them. Ends up my Genesis reads the humidity as 10 points LOWER than what it really is. barnie.gifMaybe that is why my hatches have been less than stellar?? I have very little water in the bator and they read 30% humidity before I put the eggs in. Now they are reading 62%. Sure hope they go down soon.

Here they are: 64 eggs. Looks like the turner is hanging in there. I have them all marked in case I have to pull it out

BEAUTIFUL... But a little secret I've learned... you stack the egg that's next to the turner motor, because it's just TOO WARM there and the egg won't make it. I always leave that spot empty... (even though in my start pick I had one there.. It's since been moved and stacked)

Okay, ya'll talked me into it!  In went the two little green (it is St. Patrick's Day, after all!) pullet eggs and a couple that the girls layed this morning, bringing my total set to 46 eggs (only 4 are stacked and I will swap them out so they don't stay on top all the time.)

I have almost all of my guesses and info ready for the final draft of the sign up sheet.  The only thing I have left to guess is the big one, how many will hatch.  I want to wait until tomorrow to guess based on the accurate numbers set.

I am going out of town and hope there is Wifi available at the conference site!  If there's anyone in the Smyrna GA area that wants to meet for coffee or supper, let me know!

I am in by accident.  Just happened to be ready to set the incubator today.  I made big mistakes on my enrollment so I made another one.  I hope that is ok.  I didn't know how to do anything else.  if you will you can take my first one off and leave the second one.  Sorry I wasn't reading anything right.

Oh no!  Can anyone else report this as a personal experience?  I don't want that to happen to one of mine!  What if you rotate that position out whenever you open the bator so no one egg stays there long?  Do I need to post another pic with the last four eggs stacked on or can I go with the one I took at noon?  I really didn't want to open the bator again as it still hasn't come back to 99 yet.  I could try to get a pic through the window, would that be good enough?  Well, here I took one pic in each window and it shows all but one large brown egg that I added....
