My contest pic for the ingenius chicken invention/build:

This is my grow out pen. My DH DC and myself built this out of material we found laying around the farm and an old hay ring that we haven't used in years. It is all recycled stuff!! The fencing is all the way around and top and bottom of the hay ring and is orange plastic safety fencing.

grow pen1.jpggrow pen2.jpg

The coop is 4ft x 4ft and the ring is about a 8 ft circle 4 ft tall.

Lots of dfferent critters running around.. starting purebred flocks of BCM and GCM.

I picked up a really nice Rubbermaid cooking thermometer at Gordon Foods, has a long stem that can be immersed, and when I checked it in boiling water it was only a few tenths of a degree off.  I use it to check my other thermometers against, and it fits nicely into the top air vents of my incubators.

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Cool !  Ok, you have the prizes. Now, what is the contest?   900x600px-LL-71fb621e_jill61-603505-albums-emoticons-pic59015-rubbing-hands-smiley.gif

hmmm... how abooout, the best incubator picture? if anyone knows, i like incubators the best out of everything "chicken" and have 3 home made ones and swear that whenever i get a job im gonna buy a Genesis hova-bator. and two goooood thermostats.

yeah~ contest is for the best incubator design. it can be home made, or it can be store-bought. i've seen some interesting foreign(not american) incubators on tutorials.

another thing is that it doesn't have to be your own incubator, but you hafta say where you took the picture from.

and seeing many(hopefully) different designs will show myself and others what possibilities there are for incubators.

and i like to draw, i just rarely have motivation. i hope no one is allergic to sharpie markers and white-out.

im actually on a computer(at school) so i can post pictures. in a few minutes...

Wrong. Always treat the chicken outside.

I dumped her drops of Ivermectin in her crest as I parted it to get to skin, and then let go to put the lid on while she placidly sat in my lap (she's one of the calmest, cuddliest chickens I have, and that's saying a lot, because mine are all teddy bears).

Then she shook.

I was covered in mites. They had begun running for the hills already and when she shook they went flying all over me...and my mudroom, I imagine.

I pitched her out the back door and ran for the shower.

Thats an awesome egg holder.  I need to steal some from my son to do this when it's hatch time so they don't roll around like mad in the bator when the chicks start hatching.
