Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long! - Page 613

My camera is in need of new batteries before I can take my pictures of my eggs  I set. Do the turkey eggs I set count even though I set them later that I should have....they won't hatch till like a week after easter.

I think they solved that problem by dying young! ep.gif

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

What breeds do I have?  More than any sane person would own.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the participation form you completed you put 62 eggs, so if your pic matches you are good.  If you set more or less than 62 then resubmit the participation form and PM Laree to delete the first one.

Atleast I think that is what I read in previous posts.

Well, I need to update that. We lost an old tom and had 5 kittens. On the bright side the Momma has finally been captured (hugely pregnant cats are much easier to catch) and I'll be driving the 2 hours to a vet that works on wild cats to have her spayed.

DH told me this weekend I need to stop feeding them so they'll catch the rabbits that have been eating "his raspberries". I told him they'll do their job by thinning out the babies born this spring. In truth we have very few rodents of any kind!

my BR turkeys are great on feed, last year I had 13 BR turkeys and when they were full grown they only eat 50lbs per week for 13 turkeys.

This is my grow out pen. My DH DC and myself built this out of material we found laying around the farm and an old hay ring that we haven't used in years. It is all recycled stuff!! The fencing is all the way around and top and bottom of the hay ring and is orange plastic safety fencing.

The coop is 4ft x 4ft and the ring is about a 8 ft circle 4 ft tall.

Finally!  My eggs are in town.  I hope the mailman gets here before I have to leave for my kids appt.  Hopefully DS will get some antibiotics so I can sleep.  I will let you all know the total set later.

OK, heres my question.  Someone here suggested a cooking thermometer...I tested it and its 1/10 away from perfect in boiling water.  I tested my eggs at the very tip of the tallest egg.  104!!!  Bottom is 99.   My other thermometers say 101, and 99 but I'm not sure where they are exactly measuring at.  Sooo...in a still air, the very tip should be 101.5 right?  I hope I didn't cook my eggs.  Or, is the top 3rd supposed to be 101 so 104 at the very tip is ok?  Where exactly do I measure!  Helppppppp.  Please no cooking these eggs.  These are the precious ones that matter the most.  Hope my hovabator gets here soon.

but it didn't explode in the bator. Thank the good LORD.

(when I was a kid, on the farm,  I got exploded on more than once)  too bad I forgot those experiences until I got exploded on again February 3rd.

Two questions:

  1. Did it stink before you opened it?  sickbyc.gif
  2. Who is MN that keeps calling you so early?   hide.gif

Hope your burns are doing better today!   fl.gif

Hi everyone my last shipment of eggs came today i am at work so not able to put them in yet or see if they are ok since they are 2 days late when i get home in a few hrs i will check on them and place them in the incubator and take a picture of both my incubators that are up and running and all the eggs there are suppose to be 23 in the shippment but will not know till i get home if their were extras if there was i will resubmit the entry and ask my first one to be removed so the correct amount of eggs i have is correct for the best hatch rate contest and so there will be an accurate count on how many everyone sets i am so tempted to go home early today
