Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long! - Page 748

So about noontime, my kids blast into the room ( I'm reading Easter Hatch along, what else would I be doing/) Mom, a rooster is missing from the AMeracauna pen!!!!

What???? How many did you count?

THree.

THree? Did you loook  inside the coop??

Yes, he's not there.

Which one is missing?

(no answer)

Look around!!

On with my sneakers and a jacket, ti's cool today. I check the pen, Three. My heart sinks further, the boys are right. The quiet, picked on boy is gone. My silver split lav. We look every where. All the chickens are acting normal--no intruder to attack.  Hmm, where is he then. No feathers.

I do a few chores, chewing on the facts. (I feel like Columbo but without the cigar and overcoat!) He has to be here somewhere, there are no feathers indicting an attack.             DH is certain an owl. Really?, I think. An owl cannot get thru this fencing. Maybe the Am boy managed to squeeze thru  the space between coop and pen . . . but where are the feathers of an attack. A coyote-- a chicken would be a grab and go dinner.

I return to the pen looking at the 3 remaining boys. All looks fine.  Then I see a chicken looking out from UNDER the coop!!!!   Relief!!! He's found!! ANd clearly stuck.

DH pushes the coop, lifting it off the ground slowly. I grab the rooster, keeping him clear of the descending  coop.

I put him in another cage, smaller, but safe from his terrorists.

Another coop to build!

I know how you feel...! One of my girls was missing thursday.  I looked. I looked again.  She showed up the next day, probably because she loves to hang out on top of the bales in the hay shed -- and couldn't find her way down until the next morning. Whew... I was ready to take out my gun.

So, I didn't get to candle last night. My flashlight is acting crazy again. More bad news today. My car isn't worth fixing so my dad and brother are outside taking off it what they can before they haul it across the scales. There was just more work to be done to it than it was worth. This is the 4th car I've been through.... and still haven't gotten to drive. I have bad luck with cars. If I'm lucky I'll get a little bit of money from it. All the rest goes to feed and bills. If I get enough, I might get a Spot Check.

Chickens: 4 RIR, 1 HRIR roo, 1 BA hen, 13 AGF, 2 BA/RIR. Ducks: 1 Mallard drake and 4 little Coturnix quail. Everything else: 6 dogs, 6 cats, a pot bellied pig and one stubborn Mustang that rules the field!

Living happily with Blu and our son on the way.

RIP Ducky and Bo4

Candled today. The Isbar with the big dent filled with wax is clear, tossed. Of the six crested cream legbars, one was clear and was tossed!. I am still in with 5 legbar eggs! I had to candle since this is my first eggs and I have an auction on eBay. Can't sell ethically without a fertility test, right? I also have some shipped legbar eggs being fertility tested. I'll be setting 6 or 7 more this week when my order for more legbar eggs arrives.

I have ducklings hatching today. celebrate.gif I am a little concerned though as this was a grab-bag lot of eggs, so I do not know what breed they are, They are hatching on day 25. I went in to put them on lockdown and I hear lots of cheeping and tapping. Last night they were all alive and kicking (100% for shipped eggs ep.gif) and now 5 of the 6 are mostly hatched. Hope they will be fine. I will post pics either tonight or tomorrow.

Keep smiling .... it makes everyone else wonder what you have been up to.

I have a very supportive husband, 3 wonderful kids, 2 pit bull pups (Tiger & Stormie), 1 pot-belly pig (Bacon),(Rex & Diesel- RIP Boys), 1 Rouen Duck (Snickers),1 Embden Gosling (Bubbles) lots of chickens, & a full incubator.        Check out the Hot Box cam http://98.89.30.172:8081

Someone unplugged the incubator last night! th.gif

The temperature was 75 inside the bator when I checked it this morning. Got it back up to temperature, candled 3 eggs and all were good, I saw a little movement!

THANK GOD!

THAT is a great picture!  With great subject material.

I candled today!!  Have no idea what day it is, think someone just mentioned there are 13 days till hatching, so we are between 7 and 10, so close enough.  Only have one which I think is clear, and will recandle it around day 10, or 11 but definitely not 9.  tongue.png   good think the incubator is in a good location to walk by and turn it every now and again.  I love my brinsea... I don't have the patience to hover over any tempermental bators.  Well, back to trying to catch up....
