The temps inside the bators got down to 75 even though I had them wrapped in 2 blankets. I had to wait for a friend to get home from work who has a couple of Sportsmans with extra room and took them over there and put them in. What do you suppose the chances of them hatching are, I am heartbroken over this. We are experiencing 45-50 mile a hour winds and it is really cold today, I think that is why the temps dropped so fast. Now I have to look around for more eggs to hatch.

I have read about eggs hatching with longer outages and cooler temperatures.

Don't give up. Candle them tomorrow.

My nesting is at least that much or more.  The little chicks just jump off.  and I put them in the nest at night.  But after a couple of days the hen moves down and sleeps on the floor.  I did notice that my chick learned to roost pretty quickly.  And she rode on the back of the barred rock.  I have wood chips on top concrete in my coop.

My sister always slept out in the barn when her mare was getting close and showing signs.  One year her brood mare was showing absolutely no signs that she was close, so she left her out in the pasture that night.  The next morning, she looked out and there was the mare "and foal".  After joyously checking out her new baby, she went to the barn to do chores, and someone had come in during the night and stolen all of her saddles.  It was a good thing she hadn't slept in the barn that night!

Wife of 1, mother of 2, grandmother of 3, surrogate mom of 3 horses, 3 (large) dogs, 2 cats, 29 pheasants and too many chickens (of various ages, breeds and sexes), and I am hatching more.

So did I, in the theatre, even, not when it was released on DVD.  (Not saying Arielle didn't see it in the theatres, just making it quite clear how long ago it was!)

I remember driving up Carmel Hill to Hwy 1, weaving my Honda Civic in and out of traffic like it was an X-Wing Fighter!

After some discussion, we have decided to have "working" emus. They are really astute students, very attentive........

emuoutsid 065a.jpg

They helped with raking.

emuoutsid 048a.jpg

And picking up twigs....

emuoutsid 076.JPG

emuoutsid 077.JPG

And ran with vigor and excitement to the next destination.....

They followed instructions, too. We told them to walk away now.... so we could start the fire...

All was going well, until Tyson (our dog) talked with them....

I don't know what he said...... but they walked off the job..........

Me, too!  Went right out and bought the soundtrack, New York Phil Harmonic blaring loudly inside my Malibu Classic from the 8-track tape player -- no kidding!
