I think this incubation has done me in, and I'm giving in to a turner. Has anyone seen a turner suitable for an LG on sale???

I'm falling alseep before the last turn of the day or sleeping late on the weekends and the eggs haven't been turned for 12 hours.  Definitely didn't turn these nearly as often as I usually do.

From the top so you can see the holes

You cut the sides down by about 1/3

Make sense?

I always use styrofoam as the cardboard soaks up too much of the humidity.

Does anyone ever dampen the cardboard carton before putting in bator and/or moisten during lock down?  idunno.gif

To many post to keep up with.

Here's my status report:

Temp control is not ideal, I have a control span of 2.0 to 2.5 degrees F. Generally 98.3 or .4 to 100.5 to 100.8.

Started with 36 BSLs, to date I have removed 6 eggs. 3 quitters, 2 clear, 1 gone black.

I will be going into lockdown with 30 eggs in good shape.

What I consider satisfactory results would be 22 - 26 hatching. My brooder is sized just about right for 25 chicks.

Awesome pic of the chicken going for the lettuce.  Love it.

I have a question....

My eggs aren't doing real well so I have less than 10 hatching this weekend.  I have an automatic turner in there and I was wondering if I could take a rail out of it and let my eggs hatch while the others keep turning?  Would that hurt my turner?  I know the rails will come out because you can put in qual rails if you want to.  I wanted to take one out and put up some type of partition to keep them from getting to the other eggs.  My humidity might be a bit high for the others but it would keep me from having ot buy another incubator right now.

Bantam Red Cochins, Mille Fluer D'Uccle, Free ranging guineas - Pearl, Pied, Buff, Violet, Lavender.  One RIR hen and one Black Australorp hen (Henny) who is a spoiled rotten pet.  Variety of Maran babies.  One great husband, three kids, and two dogs.  I'm a chick-a-holic so I have an ever changing number of feather kids.

Arielle,

I hate turners and have a brand new one sitting in a box collecting dust and it is for an LG. I will sell it to you if you want cheaper than getting it from a store. However, not sure how much shipping would cost on it. Pm if your interested.

It makes the humidity toooo high. I do not use the cardboard cartons, because it is a wet mess. I also do not want my eggs wet.

Just my opinion.....
