Quote:
Ventilation is very important during the incubation process. While the embryo is developing, oxygen enters the egg through the shell and carbon dioxide escapes in the same manner. As the chicks hatch, they require an increased supply of fresh oxygen. As embryos grow, the air vent openings are gradually opened to satisfy increased embryonic oxygen demand. Care must be taken to maintain humidity during the hatching period. Unobstructed ventilation holes, both above and below the eggs, are essential for proper air exchange.

Had 1 pip last night and 2 additional pips on my cochin eggs by 5 am. 1 cochin hatched and trying out its new legs (pics soon). Now a pip on one silkie egg. YAY !!!!  I can't believe there is over 9900 posts on this thread. AMAZING !!!  Love all the pics of the fuzzies !! Good luck everyone on the remainder of your hatches

On the administrator's thread about the problem, a poster named Imp said what worked for them and it worked for me too.  Before that, I was using your suggestion about changing a preference & then using the preview feature.  Time consuming, but better than not posting at all.

Anyway, they said to click on the "compatibility button".  It is the button to the right of the address line on your top toolbar.  It looks like a torn sheet of paper.  I just clicked on that and it has worked ever since.

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

What breeds do I have?  More than any sane person would own.

I started with 15 mixed eggs from my SIL and 14 for me.  I throw out 3 of pats and one of mine early one.  They were the ones I could see into.  I can see the air sacs but nothing else in most of the rest.  She has one large white egg that I could see a large air sac and on the other end was a clear space but I could see movement in the middle section which was dark.  Also it had veining I could see.  It just looked strange to me.  But the movement went down into the bottom clear area like kicking maybe????

So we started hatching on day 18.  Sis had 3 pips and one of mine pipped and zipping out.

Since then we had so far 7 hatch of Sis's and I have had 3 hatch.

She has a lot of roos running with her hens and I have one and he is very selective.  I know who he likes but am not there when they lay so don't know what eggs are fertile.

So out of 29 eggs we have hatched out 10 so far.

Edited to say: None of my EE's have hatched or pipped yet.  The ones that hatched for me are red sex links X ee mix.  One has light legs and the other two are willowey.  I really wanted these EE egg to hatch.

We did have a bad accident happen to one.  In my home made incubator I had a wire separating the fan and light but I had bent it over them some so there was a little gap and one of the chicks climbed up the wire and fell over into the FAN. sickbyc.gifhit.gifThis happened during the night not long after it hatched because it was still wet.  I am so unhappy.  It was my fault.  I straightened the wire up to the top of the bator.  dumb!  I know he had a broken wing and a raw scrap down the thigh. It was cry out every time it moved around I knew I couldn't kill it so I waited for my son to come in and he took it and killed it for me...I am still sad...sad.png

Well I pulled the Silkie egg out and helped it out of the egg. It's just laying there breathing. But Idk if it's going to make it. The other one still hasn't done anything but it keeps peeping. Idk if I need to go in and help it too. My dad says theres a 50/50 chance with those two but if I don't help it out then it's not going to live at all. So Although i'm in tears and its completely nerve wracking assisting. I think I'm going to have to go in. While I took the white silkie out the other AM popped out of it's shell. Big feet on it. So I have three chicks out. One sitting there in the shell crying and one zipping. I don't think I will ever do this again. sad.png

Stupid is a bad word!   I didn't hatch well..only 6 out of 20.  That's the worst I've done in a very looong time.  And, of course, it had to happen while doing this hatch a long.

I have all of my chicks sold.  I wanted to keep a Wheaten, but it didn't look anything like my other Ameraucanas I have hatched, hardly any puff to the face, and no slate legs?  The eggs came from here too..maybe I just don't know, do the Wheatens have the slate leg..or are they yellow?  Anyway, barely any puff, but a family was sooo exited to get an Ameraucana.

Wonderful family, very understanding husband when it comes to chickens, dogs, birds, one big Golden Retriever, and thankful to the Lord for all!

Never thought of that he.gif.......i'l go do that right now. Although, I always have good hatches even with the vents on.........it must be the stupid incubator (it's an LG) maybe it's time I toss the thing. No other chicks have hatched, but some are on their way, good luck to everybody!!!

Chickens are very addicting droolin.gif , everyone here is a chicken addict yippiechickie.gif, people may look at you weird when you tell them, but its way better to be addicted to chickens then all the other stuff out there.............

Hang in there--hatching requires a bit of fortitude and learning to correct the little factors.hugs.gif

My hatch date is tomorrow, and I have often had late hatches anyway.  I know the temperature in the "office/Nursery/Incubation/Guest" room isn't stable, and we did have some pretty cold snaps.  Plus I go in and out my new door onto the deck fairly often.  Whatever.

My room temps have been unstable too--to save on firewood during this warm spring. I think about turning on the electric heat! All for eggs!

I had 7 zips and 3 pips. All dead, except one :( Heat spike. I opened up the eggs, hoping for just one survivor. I was almost to the end, giving up hope, when I widened a pip and a beak tickled my palm. Rushed it back to the bator. Please ducky please!! Survive! One unpipped i left alone.. might have a chance.
