1. With most buckets, you can remove the handles and devise some other method for hanging (chain, rope, etc.)

2. Make a bucket hammock/sling

3. Support the bucket from the bottom (cross a couple 2x4s or use some plywood)

I hang both my feeders and waterers.  Most of mine are in tractors so by hanging them I don't have to remove them first before I can make the move.  As others have noted it also keeps the water cleaner.

I like wall mounted waterers and feeders even better because you get the benefits of hanging feeders without them taking up so much space.
