Anyone Use a Brower Incubator?

Hi db.... I have an vintage brower I found in the barn of the house we bought.... wanting to fire it up and you know a lot about them. Could you give me some tips or operating instructions. I am missing the shroud over the wafer inside, is that essential? And what about the light bulb... size? Is it necessary? Would love to hear back from you!!!!

Thank you in advance,
Leslie

If the wafer is working properly, the pilot light and the heating element will slowly cycle off and on as the wafer expands and contracts as it reacts to the temperature change. This is what regulates the temperature.

Turn your adjusting screw clockwise a turn or two. The light and element will shut off until the temperature drops, then it should start cycling as stated above. If it doesn't cycle off and on the wafer is probably bad. Wait a while and see where the temperature stabilizes. Then make small adjustments to dial in the temperature you want. Clockwise for cooler counterclockwise for warmer.

It is important to note that once you get it dialed in tighten the wing nut and leave it alone. When you load a batch of eggs the temperature will probably drop and take a while to recover, as it takes some time to warm up the mass of eggs. Don't try to make it warm up faster by changing the adjustment.

pm me your email address so I can send you the instruction sheets.

I use mine. I'll put up some pix here. I have a few of them. The large 846 is about 21" diameter and claims to hold 100 chicken eggs. The smaller 845 is 16" diameter and holds 50 chicken eggs. A pie pan will be quite a bit larger than the original pan but should work OK. Humidity is controlled by the surface area of the water that is exposed to evaporation. This can be adjusted by covering a portion of the surface of the water with aluminum foil.
Here is the overall outside view of an 846.

Inside the top.

Inside showing the size of the original water pan. Please excuse the mess. It needs a thorough cleaning before I fire it up this spring.

Here's an original 1980 sears catalog page showing the 2 Brower tin incubators.

Back in the day Brower offered a turning ring quite similar to the Turn-X incubator set-up. An outside lever allowed you to turn all the eggs at once. I mark the eggs with Xs and Os and hand turn 3 times a day.
I have the operating and parts manuals for these saved on files on my computer. Anyone needing or wanting a copy can pm me their email address and I will be happy to send off a copy.
Hi,
Do you still use this incubator? I’m concern on how to keep humidity. Any chance you can send me the instructions by mail?
Thank you.

Hey did you find anything about this yet my boss gave me his for free after its been sitting in his barn for 40 years not sure on it and need the instructions also if you ever got it.

I just got one of these and it worked, the seller showed me a vid, but now the light wont turn on and element wont heat. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix, please let me know, gonna take it apart tomorrow.. the only thing i know is that you have to hand turn the eggs and the heating element is a little out of the ordinary.
