How Do I Trim My Roosters Spurs?

They reeeeeally need to be done. I have been putting it off...hide.gif
I dont want to hurt them... sad.png but they are wicked long and dangerous for my girls now..
Are they like dogs claws?.. with a quick in them that will bleed??
Dremel tool?? What head on it?? Wont that hurt them? sad.png
And HOW do i know how far is safe to cut down??

Go to your vet to have them removed

My husband just clipped off the sharp end then filed what was left so it was smooth and rounded.  Still has some spur but it doesn't do any damage to the hens.  Though we're going to get a Dremmel to make it quicker and easier.  We usually give him a trim about once a month.

wife to long suffering husband who has built more miles of fence, barns, coops and enclosures then one man should have to, two teenage boys, current flock of 13 assorted hens and 1 big red roo, 2 goats, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 bunnies and 1 cockatiel.

That was amazing, I have never seen spurs removed before.

Mine have never been done... its been like 3 yeras.. hide.gif
