Hi, I'll get a pic up soon, but right now I'm waiting to get my computer back from the geek squad, I'm doing this from my phone. This is something I've been trying to figure out for a while, so I'm hoping for some help in the mean time.

About 2 years ago I bought 3 3 month old hens from a farmer who placed a large order through McMurrary. I got a Golden Comet (red sex link), Buff Orpington & what I was told was a Speckled Sussex. The man had ordered Ameracaunas & got sent about 50 of these "Sussexes" instead. At the time her body was all black & her head was yellow. As time went on it became obvious she wasn't a SS. She was a slender girl, about 5-6lbs. Short single comb, very yellow legs & beak, I think she had white skin. She had all black feathers, but they had like a gold lacing at the ends. Kind of like a GLW, but in reverse. She laid eggs (starting at about 7 months) that were on the smaller side, very round with almost no point, a very light brown color & very glossy. She also had an awesome personality! She was my "helper" chicken. She was super fast & a great flier. A predator some how got her May of last year & I'd love to find out what she was & get more. I know she would have been something that McMurrary carried 2 years ago. I asked the farmer that I got her from, but he sold them all before they grew up, he just thought they were SS. I don't think she was a mix because he had a bunch of them that all looked exactly the same when I got her. Does anyone have any ideas? Any input is greatly appreciated!

be best to try and get a pic up

i want to say it almost sounds like a sexlink but when u get a pic up i might change my mind

did it have a beard?? just so you know that Ameracaunas from hatchies are always ee's so she could have been an ee. i have a blue wheaten hen outside that doesnt have a beard but shes an ameracuna (better known as an ee). she could have also been a packing peanut

Definitely not a SS. This is what those look like:

The description you gave does indeed remind me of Black Sexlink... Here's a few of mine:

Did she look similar to any of them??

hdowden, I'll get a pic up in a few hours. My fiance is supposed to be picking up my computer on his was home. I know it wasn't an Americana or an EE, she didn't resemble one in the slightest. That's what the guy ordered, but he got sent a bunch of these birds that he thought were SS. She may have been some sort of sex link, but she didn't have half the body mass my other sex links had. I also think the only black sex links McMurrary carries is Black Stars, the pics that I've seen of them don't really look like my Frannie did. But I'll get a pic or 2 up asap!

Lothiriel, your birds are so pretty! I wish I could say Frannie looked like them, but not really. She didn't have any all brown/red feathers. Her's were black w/ that gold "lacing", she did have all black feathers on her head. Her comb & waddles were much smaller too & her legs were much more yellow. I have a SS now, a real one, lol. I knew shortly after getting Frannie she wasn't a SS, I just can't figure out what the heck she was, lol! I'll have a pic up soon!

Thanks to both of you for your input!

Okay, I think I copied the right link... I thought I had a more recent pic of her, but I guess I don't. This is from when she was about 6 months old. She died at a year old, she basically looked the same, except all of her feathers except her head & tail feathers looked mostly like the ones on her back just infront of her tail. Her legs were always way more yellow than they appear in the pic, its not the greatest I had of her. Idk what I did with the others. :-/

Coloring wise, to me, she looks most like the 2nd pic, but still different & much smaller bodied. She was always a slender bird, just slightly beefier than a Yokohama.

Thank you again for all your help!

Sorry for the extra post, I was trying to get the actual pic to show up & not just the link.
