I have no clue, I realize this is an old thread, but I have questions, I just got 2 Black Australorps, that were supposed to be standards, that's what the website said. These were breeder stock from a hatchery, I was not expecting them to meet breed standard, due to this, but I want to keep my genetics diverse in my small flock (I don't mind mutts) they are for eggs (to sell and eat) and meat for my family.
I wasn't to concerned at first, they are a touch smaller than my leghorns, who I have discovered are fat, until, I saw the first egg, it's not much bigger than a silkie egg. These 2 hens were breeder stock, so would be approximately 1 year old, on the left is a silkie egg, middle Australorp, and on the right, is the size of egg I'm used to getting, from all my other hens. Mine look just like the previous picture, posture and everything, except mine are still bald on their back from over breeding :(
