ACT NOW: Georgia Right to Grow Act
Help us meet our goal of 100 letters to the House Agriculture Committee by Wednesday morning. http://www.house.ga.gov/COMMITTEES/en-US/committee.aspx?Committee=87&Session=21

As soon as this week, the House Agriculture Committee will have a hearing on HB 853, the Georgia Right to Grow Act. This bill would restrict local government's ability to prohibit residents from growing food or raising chickens for personal consumption. This would mean more freedom to grow your own food.

Georgia Organics wants the committee to hear from at least 100 constituents from around the state on how important this is. Will you help by writing a letter?

So many of you have shared stories with us or are currently working on changing your local zoning laws to allow you to have a vegetable garden, keep bees or raise chickens. We need your stories and your support to move this bill forward.

Don't support this short sighted bill.  With the phrase "not for commerical use" -- does this preclude the farmer that grows crops on 1000s of acres on the farm on which he resides from selling his crops?

Of course not.  Those farms are on land zoned for agricultural use.

This bill is intended to prevent cities/towns/counties from making laws that prevent homeowners from keeping chickens or rabbits, or otherwise growing food for themselves.
