Soon to be Newbie from Ohio

Thread Starter

Hi all,

I've decided to start a journey into the world of chickens.  I live in North East Ohio and in a suburban area.  Going to start a flock of hens for eggs and to teach the children where food really comes from.

I think I'm going to buy some chicks soon and start.

Working on my chicken coup design now.  I think I know what I want based on a coup I saw on here!

If there is anyone in the near Cleveland area who has chicks for sale let me know.  Would buy local before a hatchery if I can connect with someone in the next couple of days.  Otherwise have to buy online before they sell out!  I have limited choices of where to buy because I only want 6-10 hens.  Mostly I want a mixed bag, lol.  Would love some Easter Eggers or the other breed that lays blue/pink/green eggs (sorry can't remember exactly how to spell it!)  But I would also like some of the breeds that lay brown eggs too.

I look forward to meeting many of you on here and reading many of the excellent posts, etc. on here.

Happy Chicken Raising,

Mellisa

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan big_smile.png

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Meyer Hatchery is in Polk Ohio, picking chicks up there could save the extra shipping cost of small batches, and save the chicks from living in a box for a day or two.
